HP Photosmart 5520
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

Hi,

My HP Photosmart 5520 printer won't print in black.  I have put in all new HP ink cartridges.  I have used the tool to clean the printer heads. Nothing works. When I print the test page it prints in black, but when I want to print an image or print a word document or somethintg from Photoshop it prints in grey and not in black.

Any help would be appreciated.

Welcome @Cynni,

Thanks for engaging in the HP Forums! I see by your post that you are able to print in black when doing the self-tests, but not from the Photoshop Software. I will certainly do my best to help you.

Try making a copy to see if you have the same results.

Are you having this issue from all applications?

Try these steps to see if they will resolve this issue: Fixing Poor Print Quality.

If you are still having issues from all applications then I would suggest to uninstall and reinstall the printer software. Here is the link to the latest drivers: HP Photosmart 5520 e-All-in-One Printer series Full Feature Software and Drivers.

Feel free to click on the "Accept as Solution" button and the "Thumbs Up" for my assistance. Please let me know the results and if there is anything else I can help you with. Thanks!

@Gemini02 Thank you for answering.

I have this problem with every application.

When making a copy I also have the same problem.

I followed every step of "Fixing Poor Print Quality". When printing the Quality duagnostic report, I noticed that the text that was printes is black, but where the colors are actually printed, the black is missing.

So I did also clean the printhead, align the printer. Nothing changed.

Then I uninstalled all HP software and reinstalled it. Still having the same problem.

Don't know what to do now.

Hi @Cynni,

It looks like an issue with the black cartridge. When printing the test page, it may have been printing in composite black.

I would Contact HP and inquire about a replacement cartridge: HP Support.

Keep me posted. Thanks!

I don't have waranty anymore. The page says that my waranty is over so I can't call.. And they send me to a page with pdfs, which can't help me. Is there another way to contact HP?

Thanks for providing your location @Cynni. I checked and since they don't provide the number for that location I have brought your issue to the attention of an appropriate team within HP. They will likely request information from you in
order to look up your case details or product serial number.

Please look for a private message from an identified HP contact.
Additionally, keep in mind not to publicly post serial numbers
and case details. In the forum beside your handle name, just
click on the envelope to view it.

Thank you.
