I had same problem with mine(8620). Followed all steps with no luck. I brought out our old Hp 8600. It decided to display same error code after 1 print job cued. switched printheads and still no luck. Sounds like planned obsolescence.

I have a HP Officejet Pro 8710.
I received the message " the printhead appears to be missing , not detected or incorrectly installed"
I have had this printer working for a couple of years and this if the first time receiving this message.
I cannot print as long as the message is on screen.
I tried the instructions below from AgathaV and it did not reset.
I did it 4 times.
Can you give me a recommendation on how to correct this problem ?

My 8610 is also displaying the "printhead appears to be missing, not-detected, or incorrectly installed" message.
I tried the reseat process with no results.
I replaced the printhead with a new one. Still getting the same error message.
It seems to be doing "some" communication with the printer because the printer knows when the ink cartridges are not installed, but it continues to say the printhead is missing or incorrectly installed.
I tried a factory reset, but no change.
Is there anything else that I can do, other than replacing the printer?

Same thing on two of my printers within a month of each other. Tried all the fixes except a new printhead. Ordered a part from new egg. All did not work. Already bought a new printer. Couldn’t wait any longer. If I need another printer I will look for one that uses the same ink since I have $450 worth of ink. Planned obsolescence.

This is so frustrating. I did all of the recommended repair attempts! Two hours later - same error message! The printer is only three years old and used very infrequently! I am not purchasing a new printhead. I will have to buy another one.. This is the second HP that has died within three years with not much use. UGGGGGGG

This did not work for me. The printerhead is installed correctly, ink cartridges correctly & the track is working. This printer is not that old. Why is the printerhead not working correctly? Seems as if it is very common for this unit. What can HP do to help the situation?
