Hey @lloyde,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I see that you're experiencing issues when printing post cards on your HP Officejet Pro 8600 e-All-in-One Printer. I would like to assist you today with resolving this printing issue. However, before I can guide you to a solution I do need to clarify a few things.
- 1) What size are the post cards that you're trying to print?
- 2) What is the weight of the Post Cards?
- 3) What isn't printing correctly (media pick up issues, print quality issues, etc)?
- 4) What program are you printing from?
In the meantime, I am going to provide you with the media specifications for your printer. Please ensure that all media that you're printing on is within the specifications for your printer.
- Index Card/Post Card Supported Paper Sizes:
- Supported Media Weights and Paper Tray Loading Capacity:
All of the specifications for your printer can be found here: Printer Specifications for the HP Officejet Pro 8600 e-All-in-One Series Printer Series
As long as the media that you're printing on is within the specifications listed for you printer, I will be more then happy to guide you to a solution. I look forward to hearing from you! 🙂

THanks for getting back to me about printing post cards.
The card is standard size from the post office. 3 1/2 by 5 1/2 inches
I never exceed the weight limits for the tray.
I try to print, using MS Word, and have tried placing the card in various ares of the tray.

Hey @lloyde,
Thanks for getting back to me regarding this issue 🙂
The post card paper size of 3 1/2 x 5 1/2 in is not listed as a standard paper size for your specific printer. Therefore, we will need to manually create the 'custom' paper size. If you have already done this, please disregard the following steps.
- How to Create Custom Paper Size:
1. Click on your Start menu
2. Select Devices and Printers
3. In the Devices and Printers window, click on your Officejet printer once just to highlight it. Next, click Print Server Properties at the top of the window.
4. Click the Forms tab under Print Server Properties. Click the checkbox for Create a New Form.
NOTE: If you see an option for Change Form Settings, click this first. Next, click Create a New Form.
5. After selecting Create a New Form, type a Form Name. This is your custom paper size name.
6. After naming the paper size, click on English for Units. Under Paper size enter Width and Height.
NOTE: Because your post card size is 3 1/2 x 5 1/2 inches the size must be typed as 3.50 x 5.50.
7. Once the size has been entered, click Save Form. The custom size you just created should now show under the Forms list.
8. Now that the size has been created, Close the Print Server Properties box, and Devices and Printers.
9. Load the postcard in the paper tray. For instructions on how to properly load the paper tray please see here: HP Officejet Pro 8600 e-All-in-One Printer Series (N911) - Loading Paper, Envelopes, and Specialty P... Once the document opens, click the dropdown for Load Speciality Paper. Please follow the instructions to load the postcard in the center of the tray. Once the postcard is successfully loaded, test printing.
Please let me know if the steps provided resolve your postcard printing issue. If you feel that the steps I've provided resolved your issue, please mark my post as a Solution so other users of the HP Support Forums can find these steps quickly and easily. Good luck! 🙂

Hey @lloyde,
I'm happy to hear that you were able to successfully create the custom paper size! 🙂
To print this paper size under Word you may need to make the following adjustments:
- Specify Paper Size under Layout:
- Open the document you wish to print under Word
- Select the Page Layout tab at the top of the page
- Under Size choose the post card size we created. You may need to click on More Paper Sizes to see the option.
- Specify Paper Size under Print Dialogue:
- Click File and Print
- In the Print dialogue box select your printer, and choose Printer Properties
- Under the Paper/Quality tab choose the post card paper size we created
- Once paper size is selected, click OK
- Click Print
Let me know if these adjustments resolve the paper size mismatch error. Best of luck! 🙂

This thread is the closest i've found for my issue, so I'm posting here. I have an OfficeJet ProX 476dw. I'm trying to create and print a greeting card custom form. I've gone through the steps to create it and when I print I can select it. I've also customized Word to create the document. I've allowed 1" margins all around. My problem is the manual feed tray is centered and I can't figure out where to tell the Custom Form that I want document centered. What I get is a card with tiny left margin and huge right margin. I can adjust my Word document size and margins but I'd rather just tell the Custom Form to center. Seems cleaner.

My printer is an 8600, so I don't know if it is setup like yours. What I found, was after I did all the settings, my printer turned the card 90 degrees, and the post card printed correct. You might try starting a new thread, with your printer, and HP will help you, with your problem.

Hey there @Numbe_1_Brenda,
Welcome to the thread!
I was just reviewing your post on this thread and wondering what the best course of action would be. The issue arises that I offer technical support on consumer products. The Officejet that you're using is a commercial grade printer that I do not support and have no training on. I'll re-post your issue on our internal commercial board. However, what may get this issue better attention would be for you to re-post this issue on its own thread, but include a link to this thread that we're currently on so the community experts can see exactly what you did to create the form, etc.
I wish you luck going forward with this! 🙂
