Tried to print and I get an error that says "youneed to install software to use this printerTo install software choose Software Update... ect.  Needlessto say Update finds no such software.  The error messgae goes on to say if no software is available to contact theprinter manufacturer for it. Curious. I completely uninstalled the HP software and reinstalled it with no luck. I can't print from either usb or wifi now and it looks like contacting HP directly will cost me $25 so I am not real happy right now. I hope someone out there can address this issue!  I have tried resetting the printing system and have also downloaded the HP Printer 2.7 drivers manually.  I have been able to print wired, but not wirelessly.

Please help, this is very frustrating!

Hi,

If this is the Printer "HP Officejet J6480 All-in-One", then install only the Basic Print and Scan Driver only from the driver download page. Do not install the full solution center. Once you install the basic printer driver and print in the normal mode. Then you can download the latest full driver and install.

Good luck!

Hit Kudos if I helped you !

I am using Mac 10.8 so I can't download any drivers from HP.  I have updated my Apple Software and manually installed the latest HP print pack for Apple.

Please help as it is very frustrating to have this issue and not be able to use my printer.  This happend when I moved and had to setup a new internet connection, but that is the only change I have made.

If I understand correctly, you are having issues printing with your printer wirelessly on the Mac OS X operating system.

Have you already set the printer up on the new wireless network? If it is still configured to the old network, that could be a reason that you cannot find it wirelessly.

I would recommend taking a look at this document to make sure that the printer is connected to the network:

Installing the Printer Software on a Wireless Network

Try that and let me know if it helps!

Best of luck,

Kyle

Yes, I have the printer correctly connectecd to my wireless network.  The issue seems to be a software issue because I keep getting a message saying I need to update my software.

I have run Software Update through the Apple Menu and downloaded and run the latest HP printer drivers from apple through a forum post I found, but I still cannot print.  I have reset the printer settings on the Mac as well.

The error message on the Mac says to contact the printer manufacturer if there are issues... so I am hoping to get help here vs. having to call and pay.

I appreciate any support you can give me.

At this point, then you will most likely have to uninstall what you have on the computer now and then try to re-install the software.

Here is a document with the step-by-steps on exactly what you need to do.

An 'Unsupported Operating System' or 'Software not compatible' Message Displays on a Mac Running OS ...

Try that and report back to me with the results.

Best of luck,

Kyle
