Built photo file in Pixelmator 2.2, saved as jpeg, sent file to HP C4780 Photosmart from MacBook 4,1 with OS 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard). Will not print. Get error message:  "reading pixel failure." Why does it say that? How do I fix this problem?

Hi @gpzman,

Based on my experience, and what I can find online, this is not an issue with the HP Printer or software, instead I suspect the reading pixel failure has something to do with something else on the computer. Please take a look at the following thread I found in the Apple Community: Stopped - ‘Reading pixels’ failed.

If the issue persists, you might consider creating a new post in the Apple Community. Perhaps somebody there will know the cause and solution. 🙂

Hey Sunshn:  Read the Apple Discussion you reffered to. Had same thoughts. Made jpeg, tiff and gif versions of pxm file in both 300 and 150 resolutions. All of those got the same error message of: "reading pixel failure." Person at Pixelmator  has had uploaded original file (600dpi) for week and a half but has no solution as of now. Will now try an Apple Discussion posting. The fun just keeps rolling in!!

Thx for your response,

Hi @gpzman,

I wonder if you can convert the file to a PFD and try printing that. I have a feeling Pixelmator may be creating corrupt files. Perhaps you could try uninstalling and reinstalling the program, or consider reaching out to the developer of Pixelmator.

I looked through the Pixelmator website and found a contact us section. It says you can send them a direct message.  "Send a direct message. We read your messages every day, so you can expect a prompt reply."

Best of luck!

Hi Sunshyn: Hmm, never considered PDF. Will try. Have already been communicating with Pixelmator people and uploaded file to them. No joy yet. Not quite sure how to uninstall and reinstall app downloaded from web instead of having CD in hand.

Hi @gpzman,

I wonder if this might help you to uninstall Pixelmator: Uninstall Pixelmator 3.1 - How to uninstall Pixelmator 3.1.

Then you can simply reinstall it. I am not sure what else to suggest.
