I am trying to activate the Readiris Pro 14 software that (I thought) was available at no charge for my all-in-one printer, but have been unable to obtain an activation code to complete the process.  I have attached the printer with the USB cable (and I think I have installed the Twain driver).  Please help.

HI dumbscreenname,

I do not understand where you are trying to enter the activation code. I do understand you can not find the activation code, but I don't understand the need for it. When you purchase your HP scanner/All-in-one/Printer with scanning capabilities, it included I.R.I.S. OCR software. There is no need to upgrade to a pro version, if you do, you may be required to purchase it and would likely require an activation code.

Are you experiencing an issue scanning with OCR? Have you installed the full feature software and driver for the 8500 A910n? What operating system and version do you have on the computer?

How Do I Find Which Mac OS X Version Is on My Computer?

Which Windows operating system am I running?

I look forward to hearing back from you, and am happy to assist. Thanks.

Thanks, Sunshyn

Okay, it's like this.  I tried the Readiris version that came with the printer and was somewhat disappointed with the results trying to convert jpgs to text.  Then I saw the offer on the HP site for Readiris Pro 14, just download and install and hook up your printer with the USB cable and get a free activation code.  So I downloaded and installed and tried out the software within the 10 day trial period and was happier with the results than I was before.  Then I went off on trying to get the activation code tangent and that's where I am now.  I had some offline correspondence with Readiris and they informed me that Readiris Pro is a for-charge version, so I guess I have to do all my scan conversions within the 10 day period, huh?

I was just hoping that RIP14 was provided with the printer...

I do not yet have a solution, but I will continue to work on this. Please hang in there, I will return. I only post this message so you can see that I have not forgotten about you. I am working on this.  🙂

Well dumbscreenname,

I have continued to research this, regrettably I have not returned with good news. The printer you have does not come with Readiris 14, therefor you will not receive an activation code. I understand you are not satisfied with the version of Readiris that came with your printer, you can purchase a newer version online or somewhere like an a office supply store.

There are other OCR software programs, I searched and found some reviews. You might consider taking a look: Top 5 Free OCR Software Tools To Convert Images Into Text

I hope this is helpful.

I'm extremely disappointed. I just purchased an Officejet Pro 8610 because on its downloads page it says in big bold letters:  "ReadIRIS Pro for HP (Full install for Windows)"

Now I've found out that I was misled, and the actually included OCR software is somewhat close to garbage in terms of usefulness.

Reading the fine print of the terms of service from that page states the following:

"1. GRANT OF LICENSE. HP grants you the following rights provided you comply with all terms and conditions of this EULA:
a. Use. You may use the Software Product on a single computer..."

Well, I chatted with an HP agent, and while the "full install" is still excluded, which means I'm still disappointed, I was informed that most or possibly all of the functionality should still be there in what's included. In addition to OCR .rtf and .txt files, searchable .pdf files can be selected in the scanning options, but I really do wish they made searchable .pdf files the default option, because it was in a dropdown menu, and I didn't know it was there at first.
