Thanks Nickyton81, and by association the HP employee by the name of Winston that recommended this fix. All discussion of this subject should point to the above post as THE ANSWER to this particular problem. Here's the link to it, in case anyone wants a pointer:

Until HP updates their software offering for the C7280, this pretty ends all discussion on this subject as far as I'm concerned.  Good work!

Does this work with a networked M1522 MFP as we have the same problem: large pdf files.

TIA

I have no idea. Your MFP is a laser printer. Does it have HP Solutions Center? If so, what version - does it match any version numbers discussed earlier in this thread?

The best bet would be to find a similar, more up-to-date Laser MFP driver set (check file dates listed on HP Support site), or better yet, a similar model that is known to be working and try it.

And then ONLY if you have exhausted other avenues of support and check/double-checked your settings.

If you try the same INKJET driver that we've been discussing, or any set of drivers not intended for your MFP, you might want to install on a PC that you don't intend to use with that printer anyway and that you don't mind messing with.

Good luck!

It worked as on the network once I selected the USB connection.  Odd I know...  It wouldnt find the printer wirelessly.  Once I selected the USB option, and told it to install even tho it wasnt connected, it installed.  once installed, it found the printer wirelessly.  clear as mud, right?  please let me know if this makes sense...

The software pack for the C6380 solves the problem also for the F2280.

I downloaded the version for Windows XP. No option was shown for installation of the Solution Center only, so I went through the whole installation. This installed version 120.0.26.58 of the Solution Center. Everything seems to work perfectly, both for F2280 and the older F380. In black and white and 200 dpi a typical page gets about 30-40 kB. By checking the automatic BW- threshold the automatic exposure also works.

What puzzles me is why HP is not shipping  this version instead of the old version - or at least recommend it as fix. It shouldn't be necessary to look for a solution in

the user forum!

You're right. I keep checking below for the C7280, and so far no upgrade to HP Solutions 12.0 available. It's pretty unbelievable and inexcusable.

Anyone has an idea how to solve this problem on J4550? Scanned files are enormous...

All I can say is look for a similar model with an updated Solutions Center software download - if it's a laser printer AIO, I guess I'd look up and down the model line. Good luck!
