I'm scanning multiple photos at one time. I'm selecting the following settings: Photo, 1-sided, Auto dectect size, Flatbed, Color, JPEG, Local or Network Folder, 200dpi. I did this on my last HP printer beautifully with 1000's of photos with no problems, but now, everything scans fine and the previews look fine but when I actually scan the images and go look at them, there are white edges on 1+ sides of every single image which I have to manually crop out. NOT acceptable. In the preview, everything looks like it should be fine. I can't find any information at all on this. I ran the Print and Scan Doctor and there were no problems found. Extremely frustrated as I do this a lot. Can't see any other setting to change.

Hi @cenglem1, and welcome to the HP Forums! Based on your description, it sounds like you have the 'Crop To' settings set to Auto Detect size, what happens when you choose the paper size of the paper being scanned? Do you still see the white edges? I am not suggesting you manually select the Crop To size every time, I merely want to see how the printer behaves. I have a feeling the issue has to do with the Auto Detect selection.
Please try other crop sizes and let me know the outcome of your efforts. Thanks.

OK, I scanned one 4x6 photo and set the page size to 4x6. 1st of all, it set the page orientation to Auto Orient - Short Edge, which scans it improperly so I'd have to rotate each picture after the scan (and it won't let me change the orientation) and most importantly there is still a line that appears at the bottom short edge of the picture doing it this way as well.
I should mention that I am using the HP Printer Assistant Software to do the scanning. I had a B209 All-in-one previously and I didn't even have to set anything with that one, it autodetected that I had multiple images on the scanner and it auto corrected them if they were a little crooked as well.

Thanks for getting back to me @cenglem1, and good morning!
I'm having some difficulty determining if the issue is the software or the hardware. Do you have 4 x 6 paper you can use to copy the picture? I ask because if the line appears when you copy, then we will have identified the root cause of the issue is the hardware, if it does not appear then the issue is the software.
Let me know if you can perform a test copy and if you can what the outcome it. Thanks.

OK, found out a couple of things...
1) My mother has the same printer (we bought them the same day) and I tried scanning with the same settings on her printer and it does exactly the same thing (white/grayish borders on one or more sides of the photo).
2) I scanned a 4 x 6 photo like I have been and it scanned with a white "border" on the bottom and left sides of the photo, then I immediately made a color copy of the same photo onto 4 x 6 photo paper and got a 1/8 " white line along the left edge only. The lines on the scan appear to be because it's not "snapping" to the edge of the photo. I can manually adjust the edges while in preview and the lines go away. I have no clue why the copy came out the way it did, totally different issue. It's like it just had a white piece of paper covering 1/8" of the left edge of the photo.
3) I also noticed that there is actually a gap between the glass on the flatbed and the plastic border around the glass so that no matter whether it's a piece of paper or a photo, it can actually slip under the plastic border. I've never had that issue in the past with a printer...it's usually a pretty tight fit at that juncture. My mother's printer is the same. I didn't see your message while I was at her house to try the copy on her printer.
Really frustrated with this printer right now, and seeing that it's the same on my mother's as well is leading me to believe that it's actually a fault in the design of the printer itself.

You have done a great job troubleshooting in effort to isolate the issue. At this point, I suggest calling us. HP printers generally have a 1 year warranty from their purchase date, you can verify the warranty using the following link if you would like: Check your warranty status.
What you can do, is use the following link to create yourself a case number, then call and it may help speed up the call process:
Step 1. Open link: www.hp.com/contacthp/
Step 2. Enter Product number or select to auto detect
Step 3. Scroll down to "Still need help? Complete the form to select your contact options"
Step 4. Scroll down and click on: HP contact options - click on Get phone number
Case number and phone number appear.
Please let me know of your call with phone support.
