What core components were damaged for you?  Mine seems ok, for now.

Hi All,

Same problem here, upgraded to Yosimite and everything is going pear shaped.

Worse update i have ever experienced with apple.

Anyway, I also need a resolution to this issue as we run a paperless office and this is causing us untold issues.

Any problem solving from HP on this would be appreicated. Work arounds, fixes anything.

HP, and update would be appreciated, Hey Apple is no longer the poor cousin so get of your A and fix it.

Hello Folks, I have not given up!

I have tested one of the wireless network printers with our lab, with a router, in a consumer environment, using Mac Filtering. I was able to successfully scan from the printer to the Network folder on Yosemite.

Here are the exact steps which I followed:

Create a folder on the desktop.
Hold down the control button and click on the folder you just created and select Get Info.
Check Share folder.
Under Sharing & Permissions select Read & Write.
Close that window.

Go to the Apple, System Preferences, Sharing.
Check File Sharing, select the folder created, then select Read & Write.
Click on options.
Check Share files and folders using SMB.
Check Share files and folders using AFP.
Below check Account name.
Then click on Done.

On the same windows, with File Sharing highlighted, to the right of that under File Sharing: ON, write down the

IP address.
Then close that window.

Open the Embedded Web Server for the printer.
Click on the Scan tab.
Click on Network Folder Setup.
Delete any old entries.
Then click on New.
Display Name: Type in any display name.
Network Path: \\computer's IP\folder name
Example: \\192.168.22.104\scan
Username:Computers User name.
Password: Computers Password.
Then click on Save and Test at the bottom right corner.

Hope this helps.

Thank You.

For any advanced networks (such as servers) and Commercial Products, I would suggest posting on the Commercial forums for further assistance. Networking.

Thank you, however, this absolutely does not work.  I followed your instructions explicitly and this does not work.  I am not sure if you are truly running 10.10 Yosemite, but this is clearly not working.  I am running Yosemite and Server 4.0.

Same here. I followed your instructions VERY carefully, but I got the same result as before:

The test procedure in the embedded web interface reports "Incorrect credentials".

When trying scan to folder on the printer it reports "User name or password is incorrect."

I'm running Mac OSX Yosemite (10.10) with the Officejet Pro 8600 N911a (model CM749A, firmware version CLP1CN1435AR).

Please don't give up!

Thanks,

Dan

Same firmware version here.  I wonder if this is a firmware version issue.  The Windows 8 web page for this printer shows a different firmware version as the "latest."  This makes me a bit nervous.  I wonder if THAT firmware version is actually later than ours, although it appears to be earlier.  The date on that version is 7/2014, so just a few mos ago.

Do you recall when you updated?  I keep checking for updates and get nothing.

I checked for updates on my printer and it claims I have the latest firmware. I've had "autoupdate" set to "on" from the beginning. That doesn't mean there isn't a newer version, or that firmware isn't the problem. It just means I've done all I can do with regard to firmware.

I had a call from HP support today and I knew from the beginning that it was a waste of time. I asked several times whether the call was a specific response to the problem I'd raised or whether the support analyst was just reading stuff from a help page (which is what it sounded like). I was assured thus was a specific support response.
At the end of the call I was told that I should check the downloads section of the HP site and if there was a download I should download it. Rocket science - not. I asked if she was telling me that HP had released a fix - she repeated that I should check the website. I insisted "are you reading a script from a general help manual or are you telling me there is an HP software update released for Yosemite". 2 minutes on hold. "There is a software update". My guard dropped. Mi was delighted - there was a fix available. In closed the call with thanks and called up the support site. I put in the details and found: a driver released on 22/10 for Yosemite. A driver - not firmware. Total misunderstanding of the problem and waste of my time.

So HP: 1 out of 10. 1 because at least someone contacted me. But 1/10 because the support was a waste of my (your customer's) time. You made no attempt to understand the problem you were trying to solved and gave me irrelevant information - even though I kept asking whether you were aware of thecproblem that HP has. My out weren't and I'm not sure if you are yet.
I was given a support reference number and was told to report an issue with that number if the problem wasn't solved. So I have.
POsitive spin: at least HP have a contacted me.
Negative spin: they don't understand (and have made no effort to understand) the problem.

Gemini, I am wondering if you know the difference between Mavericks and Yosemite. the procedure you just described simply does not work under Yosemite 10.10 because it uses SMB3 which the printer does not handle. Gods this is frustrating.

Thank you for continuing to work on this problem.
Then"fix" you have described is the setup I have - ie the only different you've detailed is using an IP address instead of a named machine in the network folders page - and that is what I have already. And it doesn't work for me. I'm interested that you've got scanning working in your test lab - there must be something different. Anyone else out there able to use Hemini02's approach and get scanning working?

On the face of it, I don't understand how this would work. As per earlier posts this is a problem whereby HP's printer firmware can on,y talk SMB2 and Yosemite uses SMB3 - so I don't see how fiddling around with IP addresses would make any difference, but maybe I'm missing something.

Gemini02 can you tell me: you are trying to help,us by fiddling with settings on HP's existing softeate/firmware - but I beleive that the firmware CANNOT talk SMB3 so I don't think there is a solution there. Are you the only person in HP trying to help us- is there anyone looking at the firmware itself and how to fix the underlying HP software issue?
