Hello,

My LaserJet Pro 200 color MFP M276nw seems to have gotten into some sort of "sleep" mode:

When I send something to the printer, it no longer prints, until I touch the LCD screen which seems to "wake it up," at which point it prints the documents in its queue.

Any information as to how to get it out of this mode would be appreciated.  Thanks.

Hi hpr7busr,

Welcome to the HP Forums.

I see that you are having issues with the printer waking up from sleep mode.
I will be happy to help you.

Make sure the printer is connected directly to a wall outlet. (don't use a power hub or a surge protector)

How is the printer connected? (USB/Ethernet/Wireless)

It may not be the printer, it may be your router's inability to wake the printer if the printer is networked.
What router are you using?
Can you get into its settings?
If you can then look for and enable "Multicasting".
If not you will have to contact the router company.

Disconnect the routers power cable next time this happens, wait 10 seconds, then reconnect the power cable. Wait till it's ready.

Try printing again. If it prints then it is a communication issue between the printer and the router not recognizing the printer.

I have provided a document to setup a static IP address on the printer for better communication between the router.

Printer Does Not Maintain a Wireless Connection.

Solution three: Assign the printer a static IP address.

This information was provided by the manual. LASERJET PRO 200 COLOR MFP. Starting from page 137.

The product automatically wakes from the auto power-down mode when it receives jobs or when
you use a button on the control panel. You can change which events cause the product to wake.
Open the following menus:
œ System Setup
œ Energy Settings
œ Auto Power Down
œ Wake Events
To turn off a wake event, select the event and then select the No option or yes. Check out the settings to make sure they are set properly.

You can set the sleep delay on the printer, but the default setting is 15 minutes.
1. From the Home screen, touch the Setup button.
2. Open the following menus:
● System Setup
● Energy Settings
● Sleep Delay
3. Select the time for the sleep delay.

Let me know how this goes for you!

Thank you for posting on the HP Forums.
Have a great day.

I am experiencing the same issue it does not wake on any event, all events are checked. I started to get this problem after the last firmware upgrade that I did a week ago. One of my users was not able to print an image to this printer and HP's proposed resolution was to upgrade the firmware and it did print that image and now I have this issue.

I did not find an option to turn-off EcoSmart, is there a solution to resolve this issue? Routers don't wake devices on LAN especially printers should wake-on-LAN as a job is queued. Please find a solution to this issue.

Thanks and regards...

I have suddenly begun having a similar problem. After a period without printing (a couple of days) the system becomes completely unresponsive. The power button still flashes, meaning it is asleep and not powered off. However, the system won't respond to anything - power button, touch screen, or computer communications - until I long-press the power button to shut it down and restart.

I have recently purchased the same model of printer in the UK and guess what it does exactly as you describe here in these posts. This is taking energy saving to new heights.

From reading the HP responses I thought the private response to one user, sending further suggestions to his email account was outstanding.

Noting the date on the last report of 07-12-2014, 9 days have elapsed and there has been nothing from HP.

There is a problem with here which there is not actually an answer to and nor will there be as it is just not revenue generating.

WELL DONE HP.

Hi Songwind,

Welcome to the HP Forums.

I see that you are also experiencing the printer not waking up.
I can help you with this.

I would suggest updating the printer's firmware to see if this will resolve the issue.

The newest firmware available is 2014-06-04 , Version20140521.

HP LaserJet Pro 200 color MFP M276nw Drivers.

Then setup a static IP for the printer if it is on the network.

Printer Does Not Maintain a Wireless Connection.

Go to Solution three: Assign the printer a static IP address.

If you need further assistance, let me know.

Have a wonderful day!
Thank You.

Same problem, printer is about to go in the bin.  We have a fixed IP address, we have checked all of the settings, we have upgraded, removed, reinstalled, upgraded the drivers and checked the firmware.  The printer is awful and will no longer be recommended to any of our clients.  What on earth is going on with the latest laserjet printers?  Used to be such a reliable and bullet proof range of printers and now seem to be nothing but trouble and angst....

Please give us the option of TURNING OFF the power save option.  So that at least the printer will NEVER go to sleep.  Dont care about energy saving, just want to be able to print without having to reset printer and print queues and then waiting 4 months for a print to come off.  Ours is an M176n and it has been nothing but trouble and NO-ONE seems to be able to give us a decent answer to the problem.

HP - sort this rubbish out!

I have upgraded the firmware assigned a Static IP address and the problem still exists. Can you please provide a fault reference number so that I can return this via the shop I purchased it from.
