Hi,
It looks like we'll need to do further diagnosis, and I would like to collect some software logs from you. Here are the steps:
- In the printer setup CD, look for a "utils" folder. If you ran setup from a web download, open Windows Explorer and type %temp% in the Explorer bar. Look for a recent folder called "7zS..." (e.g. 7zS1234), and then find the "utils" folder inside.
- Look for a file called "HPInstallLogCollector.exe" and run it. This will save a file called "HPInstallLogFIles.zip" on the desktop.
I have requested permissions for you from the forum administrator to post files. Please attach the "HPInstallLogFiles.zip" here. Thanks again for your patience.

Hi, thanks for sending the data. Can you try this?
- Open Windows Explorer and type %appdata%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup
- You should see a shortcut called "Monitor Ink Alerts - HP Deskjet 1050 J410 series"
- Delete this shortcut
- Restart your PC

Hi, thanks for your patience. Please help me do this:
Paste the following into Notepad and save into a file called "log_enable.reg" :-
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\HP]
[HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\HP\NG]
[HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\HP\NG\Logging]
"LogInfoDetailLevel"=dword:00000000
"LogCategories"=dword:3e00fff0
"LogOptions"=dword:7ff80000
"LogFileName"="%HOMEPATH%\\Desktop\\system.log"
"LogParmsPollTime"=dword:0000001e
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\HP]
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\HP\NG]
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\HP\NG\Logging]
"LogInfoDetailLevel"=dword:00000000
"LogCategories"=dword:3e00fff0
"LogOptions"=dword:7ff80000
"LogFileName"="%HOMEPATH%\\Desktop\\user.log"
"LogParmsPollTime"=dword:0000001e
Then similarly paste the following into a file called "log_disable.reg" :-
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\HP]
[HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\HP\NG]
[HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\HP\NG\Logging]
"LogInfoDetailLevel"=dword:00000000
"LogCategories"=dword:00000000
"LogOptions"=dword:00000000
"LogFileName"=""
"LogParmsPollTime"=dword:0000001e
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\HP]
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\HP\NG]
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\HP\NG\Logging]
"LogInfoDetailLevel"=dword:00000000
"LogCategories"=dword:00000000
"LogOptions"=dword:00000000
"LogFileName"=""
"LogParmsPollTime"=dword:0000001e
Now double click "log_enable.reg" to import the settings into the registry.
Run the "HP Deskjet 1050 J410 series" desktop shortcut until you get the error.
You should see a file called "user.log" on your desktop. You may also see a "system.log".
Now double click "log_disable.reg" to disable logging.
Please attach the log files here.
