I know this thread is somewhat resolved, but I wanted to add my experience this morning because it might help shed some light here.

I was experiencing the same "vertical line down all my scans" as everyone here. Oddly, on close inspection in color printing, the line appeared to be red! I had opened and cleaned both glass surfaces but the line remained. I then noticed it was only in documents using the feeder, which helped narrow the problem area. Note that I had cleaned the little glass strip under the feeder at least twice and it looked clear as, well... glass.

On reading this article, I took a really close look at where the line was on the document and scrutized the area where that would be as the document fed through. Sure enough, a miniscule dot of dried red ink was found. And I mean small, like a dot from the tip of a sharp pencil. Some focused scrubbing (it took three or four more passes of cleaning to get it) and the document line is gone!

Just shows that sometimes even double-checking isn't enough... an incredibly tiny speck can make quite the clear defect in your scan.

Thanks, Rick

If you have cleaned that small glass on the left side under the lid, and the big glass under the lid, and nothing changes.. .... and I mean REALLY cleaned the two glass surfaces (the tiniest spec will wreak havoc) Then try this.  Unplug your printer from the wall and leave it off for 5 minutes.  When you turn it back on, for some reason that pesky line will disappear.

Thanks, this worked! And by this I mean opening up the document feeder and lifting the green tab to expose a small strip of glass which needed cleaning. On mine there was a big glob of whiteout which I removed with nail polish.

Thanks for your description. Found that liitle white spec on the glass in the margin to the plastic enclosure. Cleaned it up and all fine now. Saved the day (evening).

Thanks again

it worked -- I have a Dell B2375dfw-- my feeder scan "mirror" is actually on the same level as the scanning glass -- just a small strip to the left of it.....  I cleaned both with a little Alcohol and wallah!  no more line!

This post helped me, it's Dust or a very small particle crust in the scan or copy glass,  I cleaned the first time with a wipe but the line was there still, so after reading this post,  I opened again and I looked closely and I found a little tiny particle crust it or stick to the glass, so I had to pass the wipe again kinda like scratching softly and the thing was removed and I tried again and it works.

Yes, there was something on the glass. Not the main glass panel but the small strip of glass to the left on the 6700.  All fixed thanks
