When attempting to connect an HP DeskJet 2742e All-in-One Printer to a Windows computer, Windows displays error C0000022.
The error may prevent the user from:
Installing the HP app.
Installing the required printer driver.
Connecting the printer to the computer.
Completing printer setup.
The issue may occur with one or more of the following symptoms:
Windows displays error C0000022 during printer setup.
The HP app cannot be installed.
The printer driver cannot be installed.
The computer cannot connect to the printer.
The error may indicate a conflict involving executable files.
The printer cannot be added successfully to Windows.
Error C0000022 can prevent the HP printer software or driver from installing correctly. Existing HP printer software, an incomplete previous installation, Windows configuration issues, or outdated Windows components can interfere with the HP app or printer driver installation.
Troubleshooting steps
1: Restart the Printer and Computer
Turn off the printer.
Disconnect the printer's power cable.
Restart the computer.
Wait until Windows has completely loaded.
Reconnect the printer's power cable.
Turn on the printer.
Try installing the HP app again.
This can clear temporary communication and installation issues.
2: Run Windows Update
Make sure Windows is fully updated before reinstalling the HP software.
Press Windows + I to open Settings.
Select Windows Update.
Click Check for updates.
Install any available updates.
Restart the computer.
Try installing the HP app again.
Keeping Windows updated can help ensure that required Windows components and device-installation services are current.
3: Remove Previous HP Printer Software
A previous or incomplete HP installation may interfere with the new installation.
Press Windows + R.
Type:
appwiz.cpl
Press Enter.
In Programs and Features, look for HP printer-related software.
Uninstall the applicable HP printer software.
Restart the computer.
4: Remove the Existing Printer from Windows
Remove the printer configuration from Windows before setting it up again.
Press Windows + I.
Select Bluetooth & devices.
Select Printers & scanners.
Locate the HP DeskJet 2742e.
Select the printer.
Click Remove.
Restart the computer.
Removing the existing printer configuration helps prevent an incomplete or corrupted printer installation from interfering with the new setup.
5: Install the HP App
The HP app is the current setup application recommended in the HP Support response.
Install the HP app.
Open the HP app.
Follow the on-screen instructions.
Select Add Printer when prompted.
Select the HP DeskJet 2742e.
Follow the instructions to complete printer setup.
Test printing after setup is complete.
6: If the Printer Is Connected Through USB
If the printer is being installed through USB:
Disconnect unnecessary USB devices from the computer.
Connect the printer directly to the computer.
