The HP OfficeJet Pro 8024 All-in-One Printer might display error code 045358A98 during startup and fail to complete the initialization process.
The printer might remain on the error screen and not reach the normal Home screen.

Symptoms

  • Error code 045358A98 appears when the printer starts.
  • The printer does not complete its startup sequence.
  • The printer might not respond normally from the touchscreen.
  • Printing might remain unavailable while the error is displayed.

Troubleshooting Steps

1: Restart the printer

  • With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  • Disconnect the power cord from the electrical outlet.
  • Wait approximately 60 seconds.
  • Connect the power cord directly to a wall outlet.
  • Reconnect the power cord to the printer.
  • Turn on the printer if it does not turn on automatically.
  • Allow the printer to complete its startup sequence.
If 045358A98 appears again, continue to the next step.

2: Check the cartridge access area

  • Turn on the printer.
  • Open the cartridge access door.
  • Wait until the carriage stops moving before reaching inside the printer.
  • Check the carriage area for:
    • Jammed or torn paper
    • Packing material
    • Foreign objects
    • Anything that could restrict carriage movement
  • Remove any obstruction that can be safely accessed.
  • Close the cartridge access door.
  • Restart the printer.
Do not force the carriage or remove printer components that are not designed for normal access.

3: Check the ink cartridges

The HP OfficeJet Pro 8024 uses individual ink cartridges.
  • Open the cartridge access door.
  • Wait for the carriage to stop moving.
  • Check that each cartridge is installed in the correct slot.
  • Press each cartridge into position if necessary.
  • Check for visible damage, ink contamination, or an improperly seated cartridge.
  • Close the cartridge access door.
  • Restart the printer.

4: Update the printer firmware

HP periodically releases printer firmware containing enhancements and issue fixes.
If the printer can reach the Home screen or remains accessible through the network:
  • Open the HP app.
  • Select the printer.
  • Open Advanced Settings.
  • Locate Firmware Update, Printer Update, or Firmware Updates, depending on the version of the Advanced Settings page.
  • Select Check for Update.
  • Install the update if one is available.
  • Allow the update to finish completely.
Important: Do not turn off or disconnect the printer while a firmware update is being installed. Interrupting a firmware update can damage the printer.
If the printer remains permanently on the error screen and cannot establish normal communication, firmware updating might not be possible.

5: Run HP printer diagnostics when the printer becomes accessible

The HP support page for the HP OfficeJet Pro 8024 provides printer diagnostic options.
If the printer completes startup:
  • Open the HP support page for the printer.
  • Select the available Printer diagnostics option.
  • Follow the guided instructions.
  • Restart the printer after completing the diagnostic process.
  • Check whether the error returns.

6: Check for printhead-related messages

If the display changes from 045358A98 to a message such as:
  • Printhead Problem
  • Printhead Failure
  • Missing or Failed Printhead
  • Printhead Appears to be Missing or Damaged
follow HP's printhead-error troubleshooting instructions for the cartridge type installed in the printer.
Do not remove or manually clean internal printhead components unless the HP instructions for the specific printer configuration direct this procedure.
