- Fix Error 75 on HP LaserJet MFP M140we After Installing a Ne...
The HP LaserJet MFP M140we Printer might display Error 75 immediately after a new toner cartridge is installed.
The error can occur when the printer cannot successfully verify the toner supply status through its Internet connection. A cartridge that is not seated correctly or a problem with the cartridge contact chip can also prevent normal cartridge detection.
Symptoms
The following symptoms might occur:
- Error 75 appears after installing a new toner cartridge.
- The printer does not return to a normal ready state.
- Printing might not start after replacing the toner cartridge.
- The newly installed toner cartridge might not be recognized correctly.
- The error remains on the printer after the cartridge is installed.
Troubleshooting Step
1: Power Reset the Printer
A power reset can clear a temporary printer or cartridge detection condition.
- Turn off the printer.
- Disconnect the printer power cord from the electrical outlet.
- Leave the printer disconnected for at least 60 seconds.
- Reconnect the power cord.
- Turn on the printer.
- Wait for the printer to complete its startup process.
- Check whether Error 75 clears.
If the error remains, continue to the next step.
2: Remove and Reinstall the Toner Cartridge
A toner cartridge that is not completely seated can prevent correct cartridge detection.
- Turn off the printer.
- Open the toner cartridge access door.
- Carefully remove the toner cartridge.
- Hold the toner cartridge securely.
- Gently rock the cartridge from side to side to distribute the toner evenly.
- Check that no packing material or protective component remains attached to a newly installed cartridge.
- Reinsert the toner cartridge into the printer.
- Push it firmly into position until it is correctly seated.
- Close the toner access door completely.
- Turn on the printer.
- Check the printer control panel.
If Error 75 continues, inspect the toner cartridge chip.
3: Inspect the Toner Cartridge Chip
The toner cartridge includes a contact chip that the printer uses when identifying and monitoring the cartridge.
- Turn off the printer.
- Open the toner cartridge access door.
- Remove the toner cartridge.
- Locate the small metal or gold-colored contact chip on the cartridge.
- Inspect the chip for:
- Dirt or toner contamination
- Physical damage
- Scratches or broken components
- If necessary, gently clean the contact area with a clean, dry, lint-free cloth.
- Do not use water, alcohol, or other cleaning liquids on the chip.
- Reinstall the toner cartridge firmly.
- Close the cartridge access door.
- Turn on the printer.
- Check whether the error disappears.
If the cartridge chip appears physically damaged, proceed with cartridge verification.
4: Verify the Toner Cartridge
Confirm that the installed toner cartridge is intended for the HP LaserJet MFP M140we Printer.
- Remove the toner cartridge.
- Check the cartridge information on the cartridge and packaging.
- Confirm that the cartridge is compatible with the printer model and region.
- Inspect the cartridge for visible physical damage.
- Reinstall the cartridge correctly.
- Restart the printer.
- Check for Error 75.
If another known-working compatible cartridge is available, installing it can help determine whether the condition follows the toner cartridge.
5: Check the Printer Internet Connection
For the condition reported in the HP Community case, Error 75 can be associated with the printer being unable to connect to the Internet to verify toner supply status.
- Confirm that the wireless router is powered on and connected to the Internet.
- Check the printer's wireless connection status.
- Make sure the printer is connected to the intended Wi-Fi network.
- Restart the router if the network connection is unstable.
- Wait for the router to completely restart.
- Restart the printer.
- Allow sufficient time for the printer to reconnect to the network.
- Check whether Error 75 clears.
6: Check the Printer in the HP App
The HP app can help verify that the printer is connected and available.
- Open the HP app on a compatible computer or mobile device.
- Select the HP LaserJet MFP M140we.
- Check whether the printer appears online and available.
- If the printer appears offline, verify its wireless connection.
- Reconnect the printer to the network when required.
- Restart the printer after restoring network connectivity.
- Check the printer control panel for Error 75.
7: Run Diagnose & Fix if Printing Problems Continue
If Error 75 clears but printing problems remain, use Diagnose & Fix in the HP app from a compatible Windows or macOS computer.
- Open the HP app.
- Select the printer.
- Select Diagnose & Fix.
- Select Start.
- Keep the HP app open while the diagnostic process runs.
- Follow the recommendations displayed after the analysis completes.
- Send a test print.
Diagnose & Fix can check common printing problems including offline status, network connectivity, print queue errors, print spooler problems, driver updates in Windows, and incorrect printer ports.
