Cannot open HP App on Android Devices (stuck spinning or blank screen)

Issue:  HP App on Android devices fails to open either stuck on a spinning loader or showing a white/blank screen. This affects printing, scanning, and setup tasks.

1. Resolution for App does not open or stuck on a spinning wheel

Follow these steps to resolve the issue. We've linked the official HP support documents for detailed troubleshooting.

  • Clear cache on the Android device:

Clear your cache on the Android device to clear any data that might be interfering with the startup of the HP app.

    1. Tap Settings, Apps, and then HP.

    2. Tap Force stop.

    3. Tap Storage & cache.

    4. Tap Clear cache.

    5. Tap Clear storage.

    6. Restart the HP app.

  • Make sure permissions are enabled:

The HP app relies on Android Services during startup. If certain services are blocked, the app can stop responding.

    1. Tap Settings, Apps, HP, and then Permissions.

    2. Make sure all of the following settings are allowed:

      • Location (allow while using)

      • Nearby devices/Bluetooth

      • Files & media/Storage

      • Camera (required even if you do not scan)

  • Update Android system components:

The HP app uses embedded web components. Use of outdated WebView components can cause the HP app to hang on a white or loading screen.

    1. Open Google Play Store.

    2. Update the following:

      • Google Play Services

      • Android System WebView

      • Google Chrome

2. Resolution for App opens to a blank or white screen

  • If Virtual Private Networking (VPN) is enabled, the software might lock to a white screen. Temporarily disable the VPN when using the HP app.
Note: HP app does not support VPN.

  • Turn off the VPN.

  • Sign in to the HP app with your account.

  • Tap Add Device or the Plus icon to add the printer.

  • Follow the on-screen instructions to set up the printer.

  • After using the HP app, enable your VPN.
