One thing (potential) Laserjet Pro/MFP 4[23]xx owners should be aware of is this:
Which lists under known Issues:
<quote>
Known issues:
1. USB print feature is not working properly with FW version 6.17.X.X for HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP 4303 devices 2. An I/O error is observed when attempting to add a HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP 4303series device via wireless option.
</quote>
And no matter how I try the various recommendations:
The Factory Reset from the Guide linked to above
and/or the installation of the newest Windows driver package
and the switch from the WSD port to a TCP (9100) port connection.
Nothing helps. The 4 4302 printers we have here all suffer from the same symptoms:
- every now and then they start claiming they have no more paper even though the paper shelf is more then 2/3rds full
- Fxxx errors every few print jobs, especially if the print jobs are coming in one by one with long time intervals between them but at a speed that the printers develop a queue.
- The printer itself then sometimes - but not always - admits that its internal spooler is in a faulty state.
but a mixed bag of other symptoms also occur.
- Up to the point that even the Web Interface stops responding.
- Seldomly it is possible to cancel the currently (not) printing and the following job and the printer resumes.
- Most often the only way to get the printer working again for a time is to pull the power cable of the affected printer in oder to get the state properly cleared. The it will resume the print jobs which are still queued on the Windows PC.
- But also our Macs which show the same problems (but not quite as often, since the Macs print less frequently), so this is not a "Windows" or "one machine is incorrectly configured" issue
The current firmware has quite obviously severe bugs which HP has not addressed to this day.
And just in case, yes I had opened a cased with HP, but their interest did't go beyond sending default blurbs back about "Reinstall with the latest driver package"......
I believe the USB Print Feature Issue mentioned in the HPLIP document is not really only USB related, it also affects the other input sources (IPP, JetDirect, etc) and points to a buggy spooler and possibly defective memory management of the firmware.
