The HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M277dw may encounter printing or connectivity issues due to an expired printer security certificate. When attempting to access the printer's Embedded Web Server (EWS) or print from a Mac, security warnings may appear, and print jobs may fail.
  • Security warning when accessing the printer via a web browser.
  • Printer displays certificate-related errors.
  • Unable to print securely from macOS.
  • Print jobs remain paused or fail.
  • Encrypted connections to the printer are no longer trusted.

Troubleshooting steps

1: Open the Printer Embedded Web Server (EWS)

  • On the Mac, open System Settings.
  • Select Printers & Scanners.
  • Choose the HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M277dw.
  • Click Options & Supplies.
  • Select Show Printer Web Page to open the printer's EWS in a web browser.

2: Access the EWS Despite the Certificate Warning

  • When the browser displays a certificate warning, click Advanced.
  • Choose Proceed, Continue, or the equivalent option offered by the browser.
  • This allows access to the printer's EWS so the certificate can be replaced.

3: Create a New Self-Signed Certificate

  • In the EWS, navigate to: Networking → Advanced Settings → Certificates

  • Locate the existing printer certificate.

  • Click Configure.

  • Select Create a New Self-Signed Certificate.

  • Set the validity period to the maximum available value (for example, 3650 days).

  • Click Apply or Finish.

4: Assign the New Certificate

If the option is available:

  • Open Certificate Assignments.
  • Assign the newly created certificate to:
    • HTTPS
    • IPP
    • Other secure services
  • Save the changes.

5: Restart the Printer

  • Power off the printer.
  • Wait a few seconds.
  • Turn the printer back on.

6: Verify Printer Functionality

  • Return to the Mac.
  • Resume any paused print jobs.
  • Send a test print.
  • Confirm that printing and secure communication function normally.
