- HP DeskJet 2600 Series – Fixing Fax Transmission Problems
The HP DeskJet 2600 All-in-One Printer series might appear unable to send or receive faxes, or no fax option might be available when checking the printer controls or software.
Cause
The HP DeskJet 2600 All-in-One Printer series provides the following primary functions:
- Copy
- Scan
The printer specifications do not list a built-in fax function. Therefore, traditional faxing directly through the printer and a telephone line is not supported.
Troubleshooting Steps:
1: Confirm the exact printer model
- Locate the printer model or product number on the printer label.
- Confirm that the printer belongs to the HP DeskJet 2600 All-in-One Printer series.
- Check the product specifications on HP Support.
- Under Functions, verify the functions available for the printer.
For the HP DeskJet 2600 series, HP lists Print, Copy, Scan.
2: Check for a telephone fax connection
Traditional fax-capable printers normally require fax hardware and an appropriate telephone-line connection.
If the HP DeskJet 2600 does not provide the required fax connection or fax controls, do not attempt to configure it as a traditional fax machine. This is a product capability limitation rather than a printer malfunction.
3: Verify printing, copying, and scanning
Confirm that the supported functions operate correctly.
Print
- Load plain white paper into the input tray.
- Open a document on the connected computer or mobile device.
- Select Print.
- Select the HP DeskJet 2600 printer.
- Print the document.
Copy
- Load paper into the input tray.
- Place the original print-side down on the scanner glass.
- Position the original according to the guides around the scanner glass.
- Close the scanner lid.
- Start a black or color copy from the printer control panel.
Scan
- Place the document or photo on the scanner glass.
- Open the HP app on the connected device.
- Select the printer.
- Open the scanning option.
- Select the required scan settings.
- Scan and save or share the document.
4: Install or update the HP software
If scanning or other supported printer features are unavailable:
- Go to the HP DeskJet 2600 software and driver page on HP Support.
- Select the operating system and version.
- Download the software or driver provided by HP for the printer.
- Complete the installation.
- Restart the computer if prompted.
- Reconnect the printer and test the supported functions.
5: Set up the printer with the HP app
HP recommends the HP app for printer setup and supported functions.
- Install the HP app.
- Make sure the printer is powered on.
- Connect the computer or mobile device to the appropriate network.
- Open the HP app.
- Add the HP DeskJet 2600 printer.
- Complete the on-screen setup.
- Test printing and scanning.
If a VPN connection is active and printer setup is unsuccessful, temporarily disconnect the VPN while completing the HP app setup.
Important
The absence of traditional fax functionality on the HP DeskJet 2600 series is not an indication of printer failure. HP specifications identify the device as supporting printing, copying, and scanning.
If regular telephone-line faxing is required, a printer model specifically equipped with fax capability is required.
