HP DeskJet 2700 Series printer does not print, despite being powered on and connected. Print jobs may remain stuck in the queue, disappear without printing, or generate error messages. The issue can occur with USB or wireless connections and may be caused by connectivity problems, print queue corruption, driver issues, printer status errors, or hardware-related conditions.

  • Printer does not print documents.
  • Error Code 0x80040003 appears when attempting to print.
  • Print jobs remain stuck in the queue.
  • Printer appears offline or unavailable.
  • HP App cannot communicate with the printer.
  • Print jobs disappear without printing.
  • Printing fails after the job is submitted.

Troubleshooting Steps

1: Check the Printer for Error Conditions

  • Verify that the printer is powered on.
  • Ensure no warning or error lights are blinking.
  • Confirm paper is loaded correctly.
  • Check that ink cartridges are installed properly.
  • Close all printer access doors completely.
  • Remove any paper jams or obstructions.

Hardware alerts prevent the printer from processing print jobs until the condition is resolved.

2: Restart the Printer

  • Turn off the printer.
  • Disconnect the power cord from the printer.
  • Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  • Wait at least 60 seconds.
  • Reconnect the power cord directly to a wall outlet.
  • Turn the printer back on.

A reset clears temporary printer firmware and communication errors.

3: Verify Printer Connectivity

Wireless Connection

  • Confirm the printer's Wireless light is solid or connected.
  • Ensure the printer and computer are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
  • Restart the wireless router.
  • Reconnect the printer to the wireless network if necessary.
  • Print a Network Configuration Report and verify connection status.

USB Connection

  • Disconnect and reconnect the USB cable.
  • Connect directly to the computer.
  • Avoid USB hubs and adapters.
  • Test a different USB port.

Connectivity issues are one of the most common causes of printing failures.

4: Clear the Print Queue

  • Open Settings > Bluetooth & Devices > Printers & Scanners.
  • Select the HP printer.
  • Open the print queue.
  • Cancel all pending print jobs.
  • Restart both the printer and computer.

Corrupted print jobs can block subsequent print requests.

5: Set the HP Printer as the Default Printer

  • Open Printers & Scanners.
  • Select the HP DeskJet printer.
  • Click Set as Default.

Windows may send print jobs to a different or unavailable printer.

6: Check Printer Offline Status

  • Open the printer queue.
  • Select Printer from the menu.
  • Verify Use Printer Offline is not selected.
  • Verify Pause Printing is not enabled.

Offline status stops communication between the computer and printer.

7: Restart the Print Spooler Service

  • Press Windows + R.
  • Type services.msc and press Enter.
  • Locate Print Spooler.
  • Right-click the service and select Restart.

The Print Spooler manages print jobs. Restarting it can resolve stuck printing processes.

8: Remove and Re-add the Printer

  • Open Printers & Scanners.
  • Remove the HP printer.
  • Restart the computer.
  • Add the printer again using HP-recommended setup methods.

Reconnecting the printer refreshes communication settings and device configuration.

9: Install the Latest HP Printer Drivers

  • Remove the existing printer software if necessary.
  • Download the latest HP driver package for the printer model.
  • Install the driver and complete setup.
  • Print a test page.

Damaged or outdated drivers can prevent successful printing.

10: Use the HP App to Diagnose the Printer

  • Open the HP App.
  • Verify the printer appears Online.
  • Run available diagnostic tools.
  • Follow any repair recommendations provided by the application.

HP App can identify printer communication, setup, and status issues.

11: Restore Wireless Setup (If Required)

  • Place the printer in Wireless Setup Mode.
  • Open HP App.
  • Select Add Printer.
  • Complete the wireless installation process.
  • Confirm the printer reconnects to the network.

Network configuration corruption can prevent wireless printing.

12: Reset the Windows Printing Environment

  • Cancel all pending print jobs.
  • Restart the Print Spooler service.
  • Remove the printer from Printers & Scanners.
  • Restart the computer.
  • Reinstall the printer using the latest HP software.
  • Print a Windows Test Page.

Error 0x80040003 can occur when Windows printing components, printer queues, or printer configuration files become corrupted.

Additional Checks

Verify Ink Cartridge Status

  • Ensure cartridges contain sufficient ink.
  • Remove and reinstall cartridges if required.
  • Replace damaged or incompatible cartridges.

Verify Paper Settings

  • Check that paper size and type match the print job settings.
  • Ensure media is loaded correctly.

Check Firewall and Security Software

  • Temporarily verify that security software is not blocking printer communication.
