The error code 0xC4EB827F on the HP ENVY 4502 printer is typically related to an internal system failure, most commonly associated with:
- Printhead or ink system malfunction
- Electrical or firmware communication issue inside the printer
- Carriage or paper movement obstruction
- Sudden interruption during a print cycle (power loss, paper jam, etc.)
Troubleshooting steps
1. Confirm the correct cartridge
For HP ENVY 4500 e-All-in-One printers, the cartridge numbers are:
- Americas and Asia-Pacific (excluding India, China, and Japan): 61 Black, 61 Tri-color
- Western Europe: 301 Black, 301 Tri-color
- Middle East, Africa, Latin America, and CIS: 122 Black, 122 Tri-color
- China, India, and Indonesia: 802 Black, 802 Tri-color
2. Use genuine HP cartridges
HP recommends replacing depleted cartridges with genuine HP ink cartridges.
3. Reload paper
Load plain white paper into the input tray before servicing the cartridges.
4. Open the cartridge access door
Grasp the handles on both sides of the cartridge access door and lift it until it locks.
The carriage moves to the access area.
5. Wait until the printer is inactive
Wait until the printer becomes idle before touching the cartridges.
6. Remove and reseat the cartridge
- Lift the lid on the cartridge slot
- Gently push it back until it stops
- Pull the cartridge up to remove it
- Reinsert the cartridge at a slight upward angle with contacts facing the rear of the printer
- Close the lid to secure it
Slot placement:
- Color cartridge: left slot
- Black cartridge: right slot
7. Remove protective tape on new cartridges
If installing a new cartridge, remove the plastic tape first.
Important: Do not touch the copper-colored contacts or ink nozzles.
8. Close the access door
Close the cartridge access door fully after reinstalling the cartridges.
9. Align the printer
Follow the instructions on the printer control panel to start cartridge alignment.
If the printer does not print an alignment page, use the printer menu and select:
Tools > Align Printer

- Incorrect cartridge installed for your region
- Cartridge not seated properly
