- HP Laser Printers - locate EWS Administrator Password
With HP Laser (Not Laserjet) Printers, how can I find the EWS Administrator password to log in to the EWS Page of the printer?
With previous firmware versions, the default username is admin (all lower case) and the default password is blank
With the latest printer firmware, the default username remains admin (all lower case), but the password is the WPS PIN Number.
To locate the WPS PIN Number, print a Network Configuration Report and locate the PIN Number within the WPS Information section.
Here is how to print a Network Configuration Report report for the different HP Laser printer models:
- HP Laser 100 Printers - Printing Self-Test Pages
- HP Laser MFP 130 Printers - Printing Self-Test Pages
- HP Color Laser 150 Printers - Printing Self-Test Pages
- HP Color Laser 178, 179 Printers - Printing Self-Test Pages

An additional note based on some documentation I was able to find from HP. On some models the PIN number will be printed on a label attached to the printer.

Hi, Have you tried turning the machine off, then holding down the menu button and starting up the printer. That should reset to all default, which includes no login name or password. The default password is blank for the administrator.

I purchased a brandnew MFP 178nw on september 26 at 123inkt.nl. Never unpacked and unused (confirmed by vendor). When I register the printer, HP states that the factory warranty is now 10 months because it has been registered in july. Someone registered his printer with a typo in the serial (what became my serial no)?

@neut005 Welcome to HP Community!
I understand that the printer warranty is showing wrong.
In that case, I would suggets you conatct our phone support with the invoice copy. They will update.
Here is how you can get in touch with phone support.
1)Click on this link - www.hp.com/contacthp/
2)Select the product type.
3)Enter the serial number of your device or select let HP detect your product option.
4)Select the country from the drop-down.
5)You should see the HP phone support number or Chat option listed.
We are experiencing longer than expected wait times to reach an agent due to the CoViD-19 impact and there might have been issues in you getting the expected resolution on the issue.

I have scoured the forum and I am yet to find any useful information on how I might resolve this issue. I created an admin password for the web interface of my LaserJet Pro MFP M29w, and when I try to login I cannot gain access to the wireless network configuration. For some unknown reason the password is not accepted. None of the supposed solutions posted in the forum resolves this problem. I would like to reset the admin password or restore the printer to its factory default settings. How do I find the instruction for doing so?

Hello,
Where can I find the EWS administrator password for an Officejet Pro 8620 printer?
It is not on the configuration paper.
I don't find it anywhere on the labels on the printer.
Thanks

What am I going to do? I have a printer without wifi connection, it is the model MFP 178nwg. Therefore, I do not have a WPS PIN. So I can't reconstruct the password set by the possibly buggy HP firmware. How can I log into the interface of the printer? Urgent. admin + blank password does not work. All the tutorials here uprocked to no avail. the printer does not offer ssh so I cannot use this route anyway.

Hi @Campy3,
Welcome to the HP Support Community
I understand you are facing an issue with your HP Officejet 6700 Printer. Not to worry I will help you to get a resolution to resolve the issue.
To assist better:
- Are you looking for a Wi-Fi Direct password to connect the printer to your iPad?
While you respond to that, Let's perform a power drain:
- With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
- Remove USB cable, if present.
- Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.
- Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord (This is important) and then plug back the power cord to the printer.
- Turn on the printer and wait till warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle
If the issue persists, then please follow the below steps:
Restore Wi-Fi setup mode on the printer
- Prepare a printer for a Wi-Fi connection by restoring the Wi-Fi setup mode.
- When the settings are restored, the printer enters Wi-Fi setup mode for about two hours, making it discoverable during the HP software installation.
- Most printers with a touchscreen: From the Wireless
or Setup
menu, select Network setup or Settings, and then select Restore Network Settings.
- Once you restore the network to defaults, then please follow the instructions on this link to connect the printer back to your PC.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

I have similar problem. The printer is new, no-one has set or even tried to set password. Neither admin-admin, nor admin-blank works, and I'm at a loss as to where to find 8-digit pin. I printed "Network Configuration", "Configuration" and test pages, none of them has pin.
Printer model is "HP LaserJet MFP M443nda"

Hi @pc1h,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I'd like to help!
Let's perform an NVRAM reset to restore the printer back to its original settings.
The reset instructions are specific to your printer and performing those steps on a different printer may brick the device.
I've sent you a private message with reset instructions, follow the reset instructions to perform a full reset and re-initialize the printer.
In order to access your private messages, click the private message icon on the upper right corner of your HP Community profile, next to your profile Name or simply click on this link.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
