The HP LaserJet 1010 Printer is an older printer model that does not have a full-featured driver package for modern versions of Windows. Users may experience driver installation failures, the printer not being detected, or print jobs not being processed after connecting the printer. The recommended solution is to install the printer using the built-in HP LaserJet 3055 PCL5 driver available within Windows.
 
  • HP LaserJet 1010 driver are not installed.
  • Printer is not detected automatically.
  • Windows cannot find a compatible driver.
  • Printer appears offline or unavailable.
  • Print jobs remain in the print queue.
  • Printer is connected but does not print.

 

Troubleshooting Steps
 

1: Disconnect the Printer

  • Turn on the printer.
  • Disconnect the USB cable from the computer.
  • Leave the printer powered on.

 

2: Remove Existing Printer Entries

  • Open Control Panel.
  • Select Devices and Printers.
  • Remove any existing HP LaserJet 1010 printer entries.
  • Restart the computer.

 

3: Add the Printer Manually

  • Open Devices and Printers.
  • Select Add Printer.
  • Click The printer that I want isn't listed.
  • Select Add a local printer or network printer with manual settings.
  • Click Next.

 

4: Create the Correct Port

  • Select Use an existing port.
  • Choose DOT4_001 (HP Print Device) if available.
  • If DOT4 is not available, select the USB virtual printer port created when the printer is connected.
  • Click Next.

 

5: Install the Built-In Windows Driver

  • Under Manufacturer, select HP.
  • Click Windows Update and wait for the printer list to refresh.
  • From the printer list, select:

HP LaserJet 3055 PCL5

  • Click Next.
  • Complete the printer installation wizard.

This driver is commonly used as a compatible driver for the HP LaserJet 1010 series.

 

6: Connect the Printer

  • Connect the USB cable.
  • Allow Windows to detect the device.
  • Complete any remaining installation prompts.

 

7: Print a Test Page

  • Open Printer Properties.
  • Select Print Test Page.
  • Verify the printer prints successfully.

 

Run Windows Update

  • Open Settings.
  • Select Windows Update.
  • Install all available updates.
  • Retry the printer installation.

Try a Different USB Port

  • Connect the printer directly to the computer.
  • Avoid USB hubs or docking stations during setup.

Clear the Print Queue

  • Open the printer queue.
  • Cancel all pending print jobs.
  • Restart the Print Spooler service if necessary.
