- HP LaserJet P1505 – Default Paper Size Cannot Be Changed fro...
The HP LaserJet P1505 shows Letter as the default paper size in the printer properties, and there is no apparent option to change it to A4. However, A4 may already be selected under Printing Preferences.
This can occur when the printer's default settings and the operating system's regional paper-size settings are not synchronized.
The issue may have the following symptoms:
- The printer properties show Letter as the default paper size.
- A4 is available or already selected under Printing Preferences.
- New print jobs continue to use Letter as the default.
- The user cannot find an option to change the paper size under the General tab.
- Documents may prompt for the wrong paper size or require the paper size to be manually selected for each print job.
The default paper size can be controlled by more than one setting:
- Printer Printing Preferences
- Printer Device Settings
- Windows regional paper-size settings
- macOS default paper-size settings
If one of these settings remains configured for Letter, the system may continue to use Letter as the default even when A4 is selected elsewhere.
Troubleshooting steps;
Windows
Follow these steps to configure A4 as the default paper size:
- Open Control Panel.
- Select Devices and Printers.
- Right-click the HP LaserJet P1505 and select Printing Preferences.
- Locate the Paper Size setting.
- Select A4.
- Click Apply, then OK.
Next, verify the printer's device settings:
- Right-click the printer again and select Printer Properties.
- Open the Device Settings tab.
- Look for Form to Tray Assignment, Paper Size, or a similar paper-size setting.
- If the setting is Letter, change it to A4.
- Click Apply and OK.
Finally, verify the Windows regional paper-size setting:
- Open Control Panel → Region.
- Select Additional Settings.
- Locate the Paper Size setting.
- If it is set to Letter, change it to A4.
- Click Apply and OK.
Restart the application being used for printing and try printing again.
macOS
If the HP LaserJet P1505 is being used with macOS:
- Open System Settings.
- Select Printers & Scanners.
- Select the HP LaserJet P1505.
- Open Options & Supplies.
- Select the Driver tab.
- Set the default paper size to A4, if the option is available.
Then verify the macOS regional setting:
- Open System Settings → Language & Region.
- Select Advanced.
- Locate Paper Size.
- Change US Letter to A4.
- Close Settings and retry the print job.
After changing the settings:
- Open the application from which you normally print.
- Open the Print dialog.
- Confirm that A4 is selected as the paper size.
- Print a test document.
- Confirm that the printer no longer defaults to Letter.
If the printer continues to select Letter, check the application's own print settings because some applications can override the printer's default paper size.
