- HP LaserJet Pro MFP 3101fdw – Firmware Update Error 8AF30001
The error code 8AF30001 during a firmware update indicates that the device has run into a firmware‑related fault, typically during download, validation, or installation of the firmware image.
Troubleshooting Steps:
1. Basic checks before retrying firmware
-
Verify correct firmware file
- Make sure you are using the exact firmware for the HP LaserJet Pro MFP 3101fdw and the correct product variant.
- Always download the latest firmware from the printer’s support page or via HP app, as appropriate.
- Using the wrong or corrupt firmware image is a common cause of update failures.
-
Check connectivity and environment
- If you update via network:
- Ensure the printer is on a stable wired or wireless network.
- Avoid VPNs, firewalls, or content filters that may interrupt or alter the firmware file.
- If you update via USB:
- Use a reliable USB cable and port.
- Do not use USB hubs or long extension cables.
- If you update via network:
-
Power stability
- Ensure the printer is on a reliable power source (preferably direct wall outlet).
- Avoid power strips that may drop voltage when other devices switch on.
2. Restart and clear queues
-
Restart printer
- Turn the printer off using the power button.
- Unplug the power cord for at least 60 seconds.
- Plug it back in and power on.
- HP devices use a restart to re‑diagnose internal issues and may clear temporary firmware errors.
-
Clear print queue
- On your computer, clear all pending print jobs.
- A stuck job during firmware communication can sometimes trigger update failures.
3. Use the recommended driver / app path
-
Update via HP app
- Open HP App.
- Select your 3101fdw.
- Go to Printer Settings or Advanced settings → Firmware or Updates.
- Let the app check and push the firmware update. The HP app handles model verification and signed firmware delivery, reducing corruption and mismatch risks.
4. Retry firmware update with a fresh file
If you update using a PC and local file:
-
Re‑download firmware
- Delete the old firmware file.
- Download again from the official HP support page for your exact model.
-
Update via Embedded Web Server (EWS)
- From a browser, open the printer’s EWS and use the firmware update section.
- Upload the newly downloaded firmware file.
- Do not interrupt power or network during the process.
