The error code 0xB8356156 on the HP OfficeJet 6950 is a hardware-related printer failure, most commonly associated with the printhead or internal ink system.
It typically indicates that:
- The printhead is not initializing correctly
- There is a temporary internal hardware or firmware fault
- The printer has encountered a critical system error during startup or printing
Troubleshooting steps
1) Clear any paper jam
- Lift the output tray.
- Pull out the input tray to extend it.
- Press the buttons on both sides of the input tray and remove the tray.
- Check for jammed paper in the tray gap and pull it out carefully with both hands.
- Reinsert the tray, reload paper, and lower the output tray.
2) Check the print zone
- Turn off the printer.
- Open the ink cartridge access door.
- Check the paper path inside the printer.
- Lift the handle of the paper path cover and remove the cover.
- Remove any jammed paper carefully.
- Reinsert the paper path cover until it snaps into place.
- Check the print carriage area for any blocked paper or debris.
- Close the ink cartridge access door and turn the printer back on.
3) Check for a print carriage jam
- Remove any objects or paper blocking the print carriage.
- Do not use tools to remove jammed paper.
- Use caution when removing anything from inside the printer.
4) Verify cartridge compatibility
For HP OfficeJet 6950 cartridge numbers by region:
- United States and Canada: HP 902 / 902XL
- Europe, Middle East, and Africa: HP 903 / 903XL
- Latin America: HP 904 / 904XL
- Asia Pacific: HP 905 / 905XL
Note: That some older 902–909 cartridges with Warranty Ends date of Apr 2021 or earlier might not be compatible with certain OfficeJet 6950 series printers beginning December 1, 2020. Updated cartridges have a Warranty Ends date of May 2021 or later.
