- HP OfficeJet 8010: Install New Ink Cartridges
The HP OfficeJet 8010 All-in-One Printer series uses ink cartridges, not toner.
Replacing ink cartridges on the HP OfficeJet 8010 is straightforward. The key steps are: open access door → remove old cartridge → insert new cartridge → align printer.
Cartridge numbers
For HP OfficeJet 8010 All-in-One:
- United States and Canada: 910 / 910XL
- Europe, Middle East, Africa: 912 / 912XL
- Latin America: 914 / 914XL
- Asia Pacific: 915 / 915XL
Steps to install new ink cartridges
- Open the front door, then lift the cartridge access door.
- Wait until the carriage stops moving.
- Remove the old cartridge from its slot.
- Unpack the new genuine HP cartridge.
- Pull the orange pull-tab straight back to remove the plastic wrap completely.
- Hold the cartridge by its sides, then twist the orange cap counter-clockwise to remove it.
- Slide the cartridge into the correct color-coded slot.
- Press down until the cartridge snaps into place.
- Repeat for any other cartridges.
- Close the front door and cartridge access door.
Important troubleshooting tips
- Use genuine HP cartridges for best results.
- Make sure the orange pull-tab and plastic wrap are completely removed before removing the orange cap, or ink might leak.
- If print quality is poor after installation, replace cartridges that are very low or empty.
- If a cartridge is not working properly, remove it and check:
- the vent on top of the cartridge for debris or excess adhesive
- whether it is fully seated in the slot
- Use a pin or paper clip to gently clear debris from the cartridge vent if needed.
- Do not leave cartridges outside the printer longer than 30 minutes.
- If print quality is still poor after installing cartridges, run:
- Clean Printhead
- Align Printhead
Print quality follow-up steps
From the printer control panel:
- Open Setup
- Select Printer Maintenance or Tools
- Tap Clean Printhead
- If needed, repeat cleaning up to the next cleaning levels
- Then select Align Printhead and follow the prompts
Optional first-time alignment
After loading paper, the printer can print an alignment page. Place it on the scanner glass and scan it to complete alignment if prompted.
