- HP OfficeJet Pro 6978 – Scan Multiple Images and Save Each a...
When scanning multiple photos or documents placed on the scanner glass of the HP OfficeJet Pro 6978 All-in-One Printer, all items may be scanned as a single image or file. The option to automatically detect and save each item separately may also be missing in the HP app.
Troubleshooting steps:
1: Install the HP app
- Uninstall the HP Smart app from Windows.
- Open the Microsoft Store.
- Search for and install the HP app.
- Open the HP app.
- Add or select the HP OfficeJet Pro 6978 printer.
2: Prepare the items
- Lift the scanner lid.
- Place up to three photos or documents on the scanner glass.
- Leave a small gap between each item.
- Do not overlap the items.
- Make sure each item is clearly separated so the software can identify its boundaries.
- Close the scanner lid.
3: Select Multi-Item
- Open the HP app.
- Select the printer.
- Select Scan.
- Select Scanner Glass as the source.
- Open Advanced Presets.
- Select Multi-Item.
- Select the required scan settings.
- Click Scan.
4: Review the scan
After scanning:
- Review the scan preview.
- Verify that each photo or document has been detected separately.
- Adjust the crop boundaries if necessary.
- Rotate or edit individual items as required.
- Add, reorder, replace, or delete items if needed.
5: Save the items as separate files
- Select Save.
- Select an individual image format when separate image files are required.
- Choose the destination folder.
- Enter or modify the file names if prompted.
- Save the files.
If Multi-Item Is Not Available
If the Multi-Item option is missing:
- Confirm that the HP app is installed instead of relying on the older HP Smart app.
- Open the HP app and verify that the OfficeJet Pro 6978 is added.
- Select Scan.
- Make sure Scanner Glass is selected as the source.
- Open Advanced Presets and check for Multi-Item.
- Update the HP app through the Microsoft Store if an update is available.
- Restart the HP app and try scanning again.
- Restart the printer and computer if the option still does not appear.
If the Items Are Not Detected Separately
If multiple items are scanned as one image:
- Remove the items from the scanner glass.
- Place them back with a visible gap between each item.
- Make sure no items overlap.
- Use the Scanner Glass source.
- Select Multi-Item before starting the scan.
- Review the preview and manually adjust the boundaries if necessary.
