This issue typically indicates that Web Services is partially working (internet reachable) but communication with HP’s cloud/app servers is failing or inconsistent.

Troubleshooting Steps

1. Verify Network Stability and Internet Access
  • On the printer:
    • Go to Settings → Network → Wireless → Print Network Configuration Page
  • Check:
    • IP address (should not be 169.254.x.x)
    • Status = Connected
  • Try:
    • Power cycle router + printer
    • Move printer closer to router (avoid Wi‑Fi drops)

Even slight packet loss or unstable DNS resolution can allow basic connectivity but fail when requesting the HP Apps catalog from cloud APIs.

2. Confirm Web Services is Enabled Properly
  • On printer control panel:
    • Go to Setup → Web Services → Turn Off
    • Wait ~30 seconds
    • Turn Web Services ON again
  • A new Info Sheet with claim code should print

Web Services relies on a secure session with HP servers.
Re-enabling:

  • Resets SSL certificates
  • Renews authentication tokens
  • Fixes stale or corrupted cloud sessions

3.  Check Date, Time, and Region Settings

  • On printer:
    • Setup → Preferences → Date and Time
  • Ensure:
    • Time is correct
    • Time zone is accurate
  • Enable automatic time sync if available

HP cloud services require valid SSL/TLS certificates, which depend on correct device time.
Wrong time = certificate validation failure → app list cannot load

4. Validate DNS Configuration

  • Access printer’s Embedded Web Server (EWS):
    • Enter printer IP in a browser
  • Navigate to:
    • Network → IPv4 Configuration
  • Set DNS manually:
    • Preferred: 8.8.8.8
    • Alternate: 8.8.4.4
  • Save and restart printer

The printer must resolve HP endpoints (e.g., app catalog servers).
Faulty DNS = internet works but HP services don’t resolve properly

5.  Update Printer Firmware

  • Go to:
    • Setup → Printer Maintenance → Update Printer OR
  • Use HP support site to install latest firmware manually

Older firmware may:

  • Use outdated APIs
  • Have broken Web Services integration
  • Fail to communicate with updated HP cloud infrastructure

6.  Disable Firewall / Router Restrictions (Temporarily)

  • Check router:
    • Disable parental controls / content filtering
    • Ensure ports are open:
      • 80 (HTTP)
      • 443 (HTTPS)
      • 5222 (used by HP ePrint services)
  • Avoid guest network if used

HP Printer Apps require outbound cloud communication over multiple endpoints.
Firewalls may block:

  • API requests
  • Secure certificate validation
  • App catalog retrieval

7.  Restore Network Settings on Printer

  • Go to:
    • Setup → Network → Restore Network Defaults
  • Reconnect:
    • Set up Wi‑Fi again from scratch

Clears:

  • Corrupt network configs
  • Cached DNS entries
  • Broken gateway settings

8.  Remove and Re-add HP ePrint / HP App Account

  • Go to:
    • HP App / HP Connected (website)
  • Remove printer from account
  • Re-add using new claim code

The app catalog is tied to:

  • Printer registration
  • HP Connected/cloud account linkage
Broken association = apps cannot be retrieved

9.  Test Alternative Network (Isolation Step)

  • Connect printer to:
    • Mobile hotspot or different Wi‑Fi
  • Try updating apps again

Helps identify if issue is:

  • Network-related (router/ISP blocking)
  • OR printer/cloud related

10. Perform Semi-Full Reset (Advanced)

  • On printer:
    • Enter service menu (varies: usually via key sequence like Back > Back > Cancel)
  • Select:
    • Semi-Full Reset This wipes:
  • Network settings
  • Web Services data

Clears deep-level configuration corruption affecting:

  • Web Services
  • Cloud communication modules
