Event code 62.80.03 on HP OfficeJet Pro series printers indicates a printhead/carriage or ink system failure.

  • The printer is unable to properly initialize, detect, or move the printhead assembly
  • It can be caused by:
    • Faulty or improperly seated printhead
    • Ink system blockage or electrical issue
    • Carriage movement obstruction
    • Firmware or internal hardware error

Troubleshooting Steps
 

Step 1: Perform a Full Power Reset

  1. Keep the printer ON
  2. Disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer
  3. Unplug from wall outlet
  4. Wait 60–90 seconds
  5. Plug directly into wall (avoid surge protector)
  6. Turn ON printer

Step 2: Check for Carriage Obstruction

  1. Open the front access door
  2. Wait for carriage to move (or gently slide it if safe)
  3. Inspect inside for:
    • Paper scraps
    • Foreign objects
    • Ink buildup or jammed parts
  4. Remove any obstruction

Step 3: Reseat the Ink Cartridges

  1. Remove all cartridges
  2. Inspect for:
    • Damage
    • Ink leakage
  3. Reinstall cartridges firmly until they click

Step 4: Remove and Reseat the Printhead

(If model allows printhead removal)

  1. Open cartridge access area
  2. Remove cartridges first
  3. Release and remove printhead
  4. Check:
    • Ink residue on contacts
    • Bent pins
  5. Reinstall printhead securely
  6. Reinstall cartridges

Step 5: Clean Electrical Contacts (If Needed)

  1. Power OFF and unplug printer
  2. Use a lint-free cloth slightly damp with distilled water
  3. Clean:
    • Printhead copper contacts
    • Cartridge contacts
  4. Allow to dry completely (5–10 minutes)

Step 6: Update Printer Firmware

  1. Connect printer to Wi-Fi
  2. Go to:
    • Printer Control Panel → Settings → Printer Update
  3. Install any available updates

Step 7: Perform Internal Cleaning / Reset

Action

  • From printer menu:
    • Setup → Tools → Clean Printhead / Service Menu (if available)

Step 8: Check Power Source Stability

  • Plug printer directly into a wall outlet
  • Avoid extension cords or surge protectors
