Event code 62.80.03 on HP OfficeJet Pro series printers indicates a printhead/carriage or ink system failure.
- The printer is unable to properly initialize, detect, or move the printhead assembly
- It can be caused by:
- Faulty or improperly seated printhead
- Ink system blockage or electrical issue
- Carriage movement obstruction
- Firmware or internal hardware error
Troubleshooting Steps
Step 1: Perform a Full Power Reset
- Keep the printer ON
- Disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer
- Unplug from wall outlet
- Wait 60–90 seconds
- Plug directly into wall (avoid surge protector)
- Turn ON printer
Step 2: Check for Carriage Obstruction
- Open the front access door
- Wait for carriage to move (or gently slide it if safe)
- Inspect inside for:
- Paper scraps
- Foreign objects
- Ink buildup or jammed parts
- Remove any obstruction
Step 3: Reseat the Ink Cartridges
- Remove all cartridges
- Inspect for:
- Damage
- Ink leakage
- Reinstall cartridges firmly until they click
Step 4: Remove and Reseat the Printhead
(If model allows printhead removal)
- Open cartridge access area
- Remove cartridges first
- Release and remove printhead
- Check:
- Ink residue on contacts
- Bent pins
- Reinstall printhead securely
- Reinstall cartridges
Step 5: Clean Electrical Contacts (If Needed)
- Power OFF and unplug printer
- Use a lint-free cloth slightly damp with distilled water
- Clean:
- Printhead copper contacts
- Cartridge contacts
- Allow to dry completely (5–10 minutes)
Step 6: Update Printer Firmware
- Connect printer to Wi-Fi
- Go to:
- Printer Control Panel → Settings → Printer Update
- Install any available updates
Step 7: Perform Internal Cleaning / Reset
Action
- From printer menu:
- Setup → Tools → Clean Printhead / Service Menu (if available)
- Setup → Tools → Clean Printhead / Service Menu (if available)
Step 8: Check Power Source Stability
- Plug printer directly into a wall outlet
- Avoid extension cords or surge protectors
