If your HP OfficeJet Pro 9018e is able to print normally, but the scanner function fails to scan from a Windows 11 computer.

Causes:

  • The computer cannot detect the scanner.
  • HP App or HP Scan displays"Scanner not found","Scan unavailable", or communication errors.
  • Scanning starts but fails before completion.
  • The printer appears online for printing, but scan features remain unavailable.
  • Scan-to-computer functionality is disabled or not responding.

1: Restart Everything

  • Turn off the printer and the computer.
  • If using Wi-Fi, restart the router.
  • Turn the printer back on and ensure the computer and printer are connected to the same network.
  • Verify that the printer's wireless light is solid blue (for Wi-Fi connections).

2: Reset the Printer

  • Turn off the printer.
  • Unplug the power cord from both the printer and the power source.
  • Wait 60 seconds.
  • Plug the printer directly into a wall outlet.
  • Turn the printer back on.

3: Check Printer Status in the HP App

  • Open the HP App.
  • Select your printer and check its status.
  • If the printer status is Ready, try scanning again.
  • If the status shows Printer Not Connected, Unavailable, or Offline, resolve the connection issue first.

4: Run Diagnose & Fix

  • Open the HP App.
  • Select your printer.
  • Click Diagnose and Fix.
  • Select Start and follow the on-screen instructions.

5: Re-add the Printer in the HP App

  • Remove the printer from the HP App.
  • Reopen the HP App.
  • Select Add Printer and complete the setup again.

6: For USB Connections

  • Ensure the USB cable is connected directly to the computer.
  • In Windows, remove the printer from Devices and Printers.
  • Close all HP applications.
  • Reconnect the USB cable.
  • Add the printer again from Printers & scanners.

7: Update the Scanning Software/Drivers

  • Download and run HP Easy Start from 123.hp.com/setup.
  • Install the full-feature drivers.
  • Try scanning using HP Scan or the HP App.

8: If You Receive a Scanner Failure Message

  • Reset the printer again.
  • Lift the scanner lid slightly and start a copy job.
  • Check whether the scanner bar illuminates and moves.
  • If the scanner bar does not move or illuminate, it indicates a scanner hardware or power issue.
