If your HP printer is unable to print, use the HP Diagnose & Fix tool available in the HP app to automatically identify and resolve common printing issues. This tool can detect connection problems, print queue errors, driver issues, and other common printing failures.

Supported Platforms

  • Windows 10 (version 1809 or later)
  • Windows 11
  • macOS 12 (Monterey) or later
  • Compatible HP printers supported by the HP app

Troubleshooting steps

1: Install or Open the HP App

  • Install the HP app if it is not already installed.

  • Complete the printer setup and ensure the printer is added to the application.

  • Open the HP app.
Note: Make sure the printer is powered on and connected to the same network as the computer (for wireless printers) or connected via USB.

2: Run the Diagnose & Fix Tool

  • Open the HP app.
  • Select your printer.
  • Click Diagnose & Fix.
    • Alternatively, select Printers > Diagnose & Fix from the menu.
  • Click Start.
  • Wait while the tool analyzes the printer.
  • Do not close the HP app until the diagnostic process is complete.
  • Follow any on-screen instructions to resolve detected issues.

Issues the Tool Can Automatically Resolve

The Diagnose & Fix tool can help resolve:

  • Print jobs stuck in the print queue
  • Paused print jobs
  • Printer offline errors
  • Network connectivity problems
  • Print spooler errors
  • Incorrect printer port configuration (Windows)
  • Printer driver update issues (Windows)
  • General communication problems between the computer and printer

If the Printer Is Not Detected

If the HP app does not find the printer:

  • Verify the printer is turned on.
  • Confirm the printer is connected to the computer or the same wireless network.
  • Restart the printer.
  • Reopen the HP app and try running Diagnose & Fix again.

If Printing Still Does Not Work

If the issue persists after running the diagnostic tool:

  • Restart both the printer and the computer.
  • Run Diagnose & Fix again.
  • Remove and re-add the printer in the HP app if necessary.
  • Retry printing a test document.

After completing the Diagnose & Fix process:

  • Printing errors are resolved automatically where possible.
  • The printer reconnects if it was offline.
  • Stuck print jobs are cleared.
  • Driver or configuration issues are corrected when applicable.
  • The printer is ready to print normally.
