The HP Smart Tank 6003 is successfully set up and connected to Wi-Fi, but when attempting to print from a Windows computer, the following message appears:

“Configuration problem 0x80004005”

The printer may appear to be online and ready in Windows or the HP app, but print jobs do not complete.

The issue may occur with the following symptoms:

  • Printer setup appears to be complete.
  • The printer shows as connected to Wi-Fi.
  • Windows detects the printer.
  • Printing fails with Configuration problem 0x80004005.
  • The error may occur even with a newly installed printer.

Troubleshooting Steps

1: Restart the Printer and Computer

  • Turn off the printer.
  • Restart the computer.
  • Wait until Windows has completely started.
  • Turn the printer back on.
  • Wait for the printer to reconnect to Wi-Fi.
  • Try printing again.

Restarting both devices can clear temporary communication or printer-configuration issues.

2: Verify the Wi-Fi Connection

Make sure the printer and computer are connected to the same wireless network.

  • Check the Wi-Fi network connected to the computer.
  • Check the Wi-Fi network connected to the printer.
  • Confirm that both devices are using the same network.
  • If the router provides separate network names, make sure the computer and printer are not connected to isolated networks.
  • Try printing again.

A printer may appear online but fail to receive print jobs if the computer and printer are not communicating over the same network.

3: Remove the Printer from Windows

Remove the existing printer configuration before adding it again.

  • Open Settings.
  • Select Bluetooth & devices.
  • Select Printers & scanners.
  • Locate the HP Smart Tank 6003.
  • Select the printer.
  • Click Remove.
  • Confirm the removal.
  • Restart the computer.

Removing the existing printer queue helps clear an incorrect or outdated Windows printer configuration.

4: Add the Printer Again Using the HP App

  • Open the HP app.
  • Select the option to add a printer.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions.
  • Allow the HP app to detect the Smart Tank 6003.
  • Complete the printer setup.
  • Wait until the printer shows as ready.
  • Try printing a test document.

Re-adding the printer establishes a fresh printer configuration in Windows and the HP app.

5: Set the Printer as the Default Printer

  • Open Settings.
  • Select Bluetooth & devices.
  • Select Printers & scanners.
  • Select HP Smart Tank 6003.
  • Select Set as default.
  • Try printing again.

Setting the correct HP printer as the default helps prevent Windows applications from sending the print job to an incorrect or unavailable printer.

6: Run Windows Update

Make sure Windows is fully updated.

  • Open Settings.
  • Select Windows Update.
  • Select Check for updates.
  • Install all available updates.
  • Restart the computer.
  • Try printing again.
