If HP Smart Tank 7602 All-in-One not printing pdf files from acrobat, HP recommends working through these print-quality and printer-function checks in order.

1. Check ink levels

Low ink can affect printing.

  • On the printer Home screen, touch Menu
  • Scroll down and touch Ink levels
  • Refill any low tanks

HP recommends using genuine HP ink. Non-HP ink or printheads might prevent troubleshooting steps from resolving the issue fully.

2. Check paper and print settings

Incorrect paper or print settings can stop or affect PDF printing.

  • Make sure the paper is clean, not curled, wrinkled, or damaged
  • Load paper correctly:
    • Rear tray printers: print side up
    • Front tray printers: print side down
  • In the print window, verify:
    • Paper type
    • Paper size
    • Color settings
    • Print quality
  • Check that the PDF itself is not low quality or corrupted

3. Check for ink smears

If pages feed but output is poor:

  • On the printer control panel, swipe left and touch Setup
  • Touch Tools > Clean Page Smears

The printer will eject a blank page to help clean internal smearing.

4. Print a Print Quality Diagnostic Page

This helps determine whether the issue is related to print output or printheads.

  • Turn on the printer
  • On the control panel, touch Menu
  • Touch Tools
  • Touch Troubleshooting > Print Quality

Review the printed diagnostic page for:

  • Missing colors
  • Fading
  • White lines

If defects appear, continue with printhead cleaning.

5. Clean the printheads

If the diagnostic page shows defects on Test Pattern 2:

  • On the printer Home screen, touch Menu
  • Touch Tools
  • Touch Troubleshooting > Print Quality
  • Touch Clean Printhead

6. Align the printheads

If printing is still incorrect:

  • On the Home screen, touch Menu
  • Touch Tools
  • Touch Troubleshooting > Print Quality
  • Touch Align Printhead

7. Check for printhead errors

If the printer shows a Printheads missing or Printhead Problem message, or printhead icons blink:

  • Determine whether the black, tri-color, or both printheads are causing the error
  • Open the ink access door
  • Make sure the printhead cover is closed
  • Open the printhead cover using the blue button
  • Remove the affected printhead
  • Confirm:
    • the top plug has been removed
    • the protective tape has been removed
  • Clean the electrical contacts on:
    • the printhead
    • the matching contacts inside the printer
  • Reinsert the printhead until it snaps into place
  • Close the cover and ink access door
  • Align the printheads

8. Reset the printer

A reset can recover from print failures.

  • Turn off the printer
  • Unplug the power cord from the printer and wall outlet
  • Wait 60 seconds
  • Plug the printer directly into a wall outlet
  • Turn the printer back on

Reasons a PDF Will Not Print

  • Low ink levels
  • Printhead defects or communication errors
  • Incorrect paper or print settings
  • Smearing or print quality problems
  • Misaligned printheads
  • A printer error requiring reset
  • A printhead that needs replacement
