- HP Smart Tank 7602r – Error Code B30E0D0D
This error is typically a hardware/firmware-related failure, most often linked to the printhead system, carriage mechanism, or internal electronics communication. It usually appears when the printer cannot properly initialize or detect a critical component.
Troubleshooting Steps
Perform a Full Power Reset (Hard Reset)
Steps:
- Turn the printer ON.
- Disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
- Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
- Wait 60 seconds.
- Plug the cord directly into a wall outlet (avoid power strips).
- Reconnect to the printer and turn it ON.
Reason:
- Clears temporary firmware glitches and resets internal hardware states.
- Removes corrupted signals between components like printhead, carriage PCB, and logic board.
Check for Printhead / Carriage Jam
Steps:
- Open the front access door.
- Wait for the carriage to move to the center (if it doesn’t, gently move it).
- Inspect for:
- Jammed paper
- Foreign objects (dust, ink buildup, debris)
- Ensure the carriage moves smoothly left to right.
- Close the door.
Reason:
- Error B30E0D0D can trigger when the carriage motor cannot detect proper movement.
- Obstructions cause position sensor failure, halting initialization.
Reseat the Printheads
Steps:
- Open the printhead access area.
- Remove both black and tri-color printheads.
- Check:
- Copper contacts (no dirt, ink, or fingerprints)
- No damage or leakage
- Reinstall firmly until they click into place.
Reason:
- The printer relies on electrical contact detection of the printheads.
- Poor contact → firmware cannot communicate → triggers this error.
Clean Printhead Electrical Contacts (if needed)
Steps:
- Use a lint-free cloth lightly dampened with distilled water.
- Gently clean:
- Printhead copper contacts
- Corresponding contacts inside the carriage
- Let them dry completely (5–10 mins).
Reason:
- Ink residue or oxidation blocks signal transmission between printhead and carriage board.
- Cleaning restores proper electrical connectivity.
Update Printer Firmware
Steps:
- Connect printer to Wi-Fi.
- Open HP app → Printer Settings.
- Check for firmware updates and install.
Reason:
- Some B30E0D0D errors occur due to firmware bugs or corrupted updates.
- Updating ensures compatibility and fixes known initialization issues.
Reset the Printer (Semi-Full Reset)
Steps:
- Turn ON printer.
- Press and hold Back + Cancel buttons together (if applicable).
- While holding them, press the Power button once.
- Release after a few seconds.
(Button combination may vary slightly depending on region firmware)
Reason:
- Performs a deeper reset of printer NVM (non-volatile memory).
- Clears internal hardware error states not fixed by a power cycle.
Check Power Supply Stability
Steps:
- Plug printer directly into a stable wall outlet.
- Avoid UPS or surge protectors temporarily.
- Ensure voltage stability.
Reason:
- Inconsistent power leads to initialization failures in sensors and controller boards.
- Hardware errors like B30E0D0D can be falsely triggered.
Inspect Ink System (Smart Tank Specific)
Steps:
- Ensure ink tanks are:
- Filled to proper levels
- Not overfilled
- Check ink tubes (if visible) for:
- Air bubbles
- Blockages
Reason:
- Smart Tank printers rely on continuous ink flow detection.
- Airlocks or dry channels can cause system initialization failure.
