- HP printer with USB cannot print after Windows 10 update KB5...
Hi all,
We would like to share some information about Windows 10.
HP printer with USB cannot print after Windows 10 update KB5014666
After updating Windows 10 with the June 28, 2022 release KB5014666, some USB-connected printers that were not set up with an HP driver can no longer print.
A Driver is unavailable or Error printing message might display.
Perform the following tasks in the order given. Use the printer after each task to see if the issue is resolved.
Check for duplicate printer installations
Check the status and port of installed printers in the Printers & Scanners list.
-
Search Windows for and open Printers & scanners.
-
Check for a duplicate instance of your printer in the list, such as a printer with Copy1 in the name.
-
Try to print with the duplicate printer.
-
If the print job was successful, use this version to print.
-
If you need to use the original printer installation to print, continue to the next step.
-
-
Right-click the duplicate printer, select Printer properties, and then click the Ports tab to identify the port the printer uses.
-
Open the ports list for the original printer, and then select the port used by the duplicate printer.
If the original printer now prints, remove the duplicate printer.
Install the optional Windows Update driver
If a print driver could not automatically be installed, there might be an optional driver available through Windows Update.
-
In Windows, search for and open Check for updates to open Windows Update.
-
Click Check for updates, and then wait for the updates to complete.
-
Scroll down the screen and click Advanced options.
-
Click Optional updates.
-
Select Driver updates if it is an available option.
-
Select the box next to the driver that is associated with the printer you are installing.
-
Click Download & install.
-
After the updates install, restart the computer and the printer.
NOTE: Ensure the Windows Update driver is set as Automatic.
Uninstall then reinstall the HP printer software for Windows
Uninstall HP printer software, remove the printer from your Devices list, and then reinstall the driver from HP Software and Driver Downloads.
-
Disconnect the printer from the computer or network.
-
Search Windows for and open Add or remove programs.
-
In the list of installed programs, click your HP printer name, and then click Uninstall. If your printer name does not display, select HP Smart, and then click Uninstall.
-
If a User Account Control message displays, click Yes.
-
Follow the instructions to complete the software removal, and then restart the computer.
-
In Windows, search for and open Control Panel.
-
Click Devices and Printers.
-
For each printer icon that represents the name of your HP printer, right-click the icon, and then click Remove Device or Uninstall device to complete the uninstall.
NOTE: If no printer icons display, the printer has already been removed. -
Go to HP Software and Driver Downloads, and then enter your product name to view software and drivers for your printer.
-
Under Driver-Product Installation Software, click Download for the full feature software and driver.
-
Open the download file, and then follow the steps to complete the installation.
Uninstall then reinstall the Windows built-in driver
Remove the printer from the devices list and set up the printer again with USB plug-and-play driver installation.
-
Disconnect the USB cable from the printer.
-
Turn off the printer.
-
In Windows, search for and open Printers & scanners
-
Under Printers & scanners, click the printer name, and then click Remove Device Yes.
-
Restart the computer.
-
Make sure there is an open USB port available directly on your computer. If you use a USB hub or docking station, the printer might not receive enough power to operate properly.
-
Turn on the printer.
-
Connect the printer USB cable to the computer.
-
If a Found new hardware message displays, follow any prompts to install the driver, and then send a print job to confirm the connection.
