- How to Resolve False Paper Jam error on HP Photosmart C4740
Experiencing a false paper jam with your HP Photosmart C4740 printer can be frustrating. This error occurs when the printer reports a paper jam even though no paper is actually stuck.
Here's a detailed guide to help you resolve this issue:
Step 1: Look for Jammed Paper
- Turn off the printer and disconnect the power cord.
- Open the rear access door by pressing in the tab on the left side and pulling the door away from the printer.
- Gently remove any debris or torn pieces from the rollers, if present.
- Reattach the rear access door by gently pushing it forward until it snaps into place.
- Reconnect the power and turn on the printer.
Step 2: Check the Front for Jammed Paper
- Turn off the printer and disconnect the power cord.
- If applicable, pull down the input tray and lower the cartridge door.
- Gently remove any visible jammed paper from the rollers.
- Close the input tray and the cartridge door.
- Reconnect the power cord and turn the printer on.
Step 3: Ensure the Carriage Can Move Freely
- Disconnect the power cord again.
- Open the input tray and lower the cartridge door.
- Apply firm pressure to the right side of the carriage to move it to the left.
- If it moves freely, proceed with the steps.
- If not, seek service.
- Reconnect the power and turn on the printer.
Step 4: Clean the Paper Feed Rollers
- Disconnect the power cord.
- Remove the rear access door again.
- Clean the rollers with a lint-free cloth lightly moistened with distilled water.
- Allow the rollers to dry completely before reattaching the rear access door.
- Reconnect the power and turn on the printer.
Step 5: Reset the Printer
- Remove all paper from the input tray.
- Turn the printer on, if it isn't already.
- Disconnect the USB cable and open the cartridge door.
- Remove the ink cartridges and set them aside.
- Close the cartridge door, disconnect the power cord, and wait 60 seconds.
- Reconnect the power and turn on the printer.
- Reinsert the ink cartridges and close the cartridge door.
- Load paper into the input tray and try to print.
Step 6: Service the Printer
If the paper jam error persists after completing these steps, it might be time to service or replace your HP product
