Troubleshooting Steps
1. Check Paper and File Quality
-
Verify paper type and condition
- Use paper designed for HP LaserJet printers.
- Make sure it is clean, flat, not wrinkled or curled, and not too rough.
-
Load paper with correct print side up
- Load paper in the tray with the print side (usually smoother or slightly glossy) facing up.

Inspect each toner cartridge:
- Open the front door.
- Pull out the toner cartridge drawer using the blue handle.
- Remove each cartridge one at a time:
- Grasp the handle and lift the cartridge straight up.
- Examine:
- Memory chip for visible damage.
- Imaging drum surface (on the bottom) for scratches, fingerprints, or other marks.
- Reinstall each cartridge and push the drawer back in.
- Close the front door.
-
Replace low or defective cartridges
- Open the front door.
- Pull out the toner cartridge drawer (blue handle).
- Remove the problem cartridge (lift straight up).
- Unpack a new genuine HP cartridge and pull the release tab.
- Remove it from the packaging shell.
- Hold both ends and gently rock the cartridge back and forth.
- Insert it into the drawer, matching the cartridge color chip to the color chip on the drawer.
- Push the drawer in and close the front door.
-
Redistribute toner in partially used cartridges (if not completely empty)
- Remove the cartridge, gently rock it back and forth along its horizontal axis, then reinstall.
- Toner can settle unevenly; redistribution can restore density and prevent partial blank areas.
