I have a similar problem. I am using the most up-to-date version of HP Smart for Windows 10 (120.1.741.0 - just downloaded it last week). I cannot sign into my account which means I can't scan using my laptop. It works fine with my tablet and cell phone, both Android devices. If anyone knows how to bypass signing in to the account to scan, that would be a great help!
UPDATE - After many frustrating attempts to get the app to work, I ended up downloading the software for the printer and now it works with my laptop. It seems like HP is discriminating against old school users (PC) by not providing an app that works with all platforms. I am happy with the printer, but it shouldn't have been so difficult to set it up!

I'm also having this problem on Windows 10. When I click on the HP Smart icon, the app opens for a few seconds then closes before giving a chance to login.

I have the latest HP Smart app software on my Windows 10 PC (122.1.778.0). When I click scan, it requires me to sign in to HP services. After entering log in details I get the spinning circle and the message "Thanks for waiting...". I cannot progress beyond this point, please help.
Logging into to the website works fine but not via the app.
Thank you

I had a similar issue on mobile, but resolved it by disabling my web browsing security on Lookout security. This was blocking the URL with its security rules. Once this was off, I could get past the waiting screen.
Therefore do you have any phone security like Lookout that does safe browsing?

I am having the same issue as CJ_L, I have tried everything and still the same thing. it's weird that I can use my mobile app but as far as my home computer nothing. HP get this fixed it seems that this has been going on for a while now and nothing has been done to fix the issue. If anything roll back the firmware so we can use this service again. If this doesn't get resolved soon I will trash my HP and go with Epson and never recommend HP for anything.

Hi,
Same problem as CJ_L. Unistall / Reinstall do nothing, I can't use HP Smart (in the lastest version).
It would be great if we could use HP Smart without being connected.

I am having the same issue. The HP Smart app (PC, Windows 10) was working fine up until about 3 days ago. Now I am unable to connect and can't use the fax or scan functionality. I've uninstalled / reinstalled several times to no avail. Why is this such a hassle??? This is my first HP printer, and I am thoroughly frustrated and unimpressed. Clearly many people are having the same issue - why is there no fix????

I have an HP Envy Photo 7830 using instant ink, used with a Chromebook. I operated this very well using HP Smart until recently. Now an update requires that I sign in each time to do this. It will not let me. It accepts my user name and password and then hangs with the message thanks for your patience. It never connects. so I can't use the printer features or scan. I can however still sign in to HP Instant Ink using the same account. HP's website and virtual agent are useless. I managed to speak to a UK agent on the telephone who also hadn't a clue what to do. I believe HP have lost the plot and will be not buying anything else from them in future, unless they rapidly find a solution and also make themselves available to their customers

I am unable to log in from the HP Smart app on my Mac. It's a newer version (11.2.3) with a new version of Windows. I log in fine from my Apple i-phone, but can't from the app on my Mac. I uninstalled the app and reinstalled it and the same thing happens. I click "Scan" then it prompts me to sign in, so I click "sign in" and the circle goes round and round, and never takes me to the sign in screen. Please help.

I've had HP Smart App for several years and find it convenient on my Windows 10 computer. Starting around March 2021, it no longer works. In fact, it would not let me install a new OfficeJet 9015e, it would hang on the "Sign in or Create HP Account" option and I had to install the printer via the easy start option on the HP site. HP Smart recognizes my printer, but any action chosen goes to a "sign into HP Account" screen then cycles back (I am a HP+ and Instant ink member). Worse still, I've made 3 phone calls to HP Customer Support, and each time after trying the same things that I've already tried - deleting and re-installing latest Smart App, uninstalling and re-installing the printer etc. the problem remains...and each time they concluded that "We are familiar with this issue and it will be fixed within 1 to 2 days...which of course has never happened.
