HP Envy Photo 6234
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi, I have a HP Envy Photo 6234 printer and it has stopped printing, this started approximately 4 months ago.

I will press print on a document > a pop up will come up saying 'your printer needs attention, out of paper', however paper tray is loaded and have checked it is loaded correctly with the paper guidelines.

The print jobs will just show in a queue > I will cancel them out and try printing again > no luck.

I have unplugged the printer via USB at the back and plug socket & restart and it will still not print the document.

Occasionally when restarting it will then print the first document in the queue > I will try and print again > and the above happens.

Also it will randomly start printing when the printer is left on.

Please can someone offer assistance on this error?

Thanks.

Maybe...

The issue is similar to the following.

Solutions include a printer Reset / Restart...

 Paper Mismatch error (Windows, Mac)

If the Reset and other solutions do not sort the problem,

If you are convinced the printer "should be able to print", that is, the printer passes the Quality tests,

Black or Color Ink Not Printing, Other Print Quality Issues

then...

The source of the problem might be

  • The Windows Print Queue is tangled / stopped / not functioning
  • The printer is not aware of the paper size / type (Tray and Paper Management)
  • The Full Driver printer software is either not installed OR the software is installed but is not working

Print Queue / Print Service Reset

After a print job has been accepted, it is turned over the Windows Print Services for completion.

When a job is "stuck in the queue", it is sometimes due to Print Services having hung, become stuck, or otherwise failing to properly complete the job.

Start Here:  Print job stuck in Queue

and / or

First, check that Windows Update does not need to install updates (or Restart)

Settings > Update and Security > Check for Updates

NOTE:  If an update is already pending, install that update > Restart the computer and log in

Next

If the current print job will not cancel or if a previous print job is stuck in the queue,

and

If the issue is due to Print Services being stuck / hung / corrupted, Restart the Print Service

Manual Queue Reset

Details…

Control Panel > icon view > Administrative Tools > Services

Scroll down, find, Right-Click, and Stop Print Spooler Service

Open File Explorer (formally Windows Explorer)

Navigate to the folder and Delete the files from folder C:\Windows\System32\spool\PRINTERS

Start Print Spooler Service

Paper Size and Type - Tray and Paper Management

After loading paper into the printer,

Alert the printer so it knows what to expect...

Example - Retain / Modify / Check Tray and Paper Management

Full Feature Software / Full Driver printer software

The full driver provides the foundation on which other programs and printing software depend.

Preparation

If you have not done so,

In addition to the HP Smart application,

Install the Full Feature Software / full driver printer software for the printer.

HP Smart and other print software / applications benefit from having the full driver installed.

Printer Software Check

Notes

If the full driver printer software is installed, you will see the printer listed in Control Panel > icon view > Programs and Features.

The installation of the printer software adds two shortcut icons to the Desktop.

The Printer Assistant is named for the printer and provides access to Print , Scan , and Tools

Reminder

If the printer software is installed but not working,

Uninstall the printer software from Programs and Features

Restart the computer and log in

Install a fresh copy of the printer software

Example - Printer Assistant / HP Scan software installed > Desktop icons

Printer software not installed?

Method - Use the Easy Start Wrapper to Install the Full Feature / Full Driver Software

For printers that support the option,

Use the Easy Start wrapper to install and configure the printer software.

  • Home Page - HP Easy Start
  • Open Category Software and Drivers
  • Topic: Software-Utility
  • Download-and-Save  the current version of the Easy Start wrapper to install your print software
  • If using USB:  Disconnect the USB cable between the printer and computer before installing the software.
  • Right-Click on the downloaded package and "Run as Administrator" to start the installation
  • When asked, Select to install the “Full Driver” / “Full Feature Software”
  • If using USB:  Connect the cable when instructed to do so (near the end of the installation process).
  • After the software is installed, Restart the computer and log in.

Notes >> Easy Start... The Journey

  1. Full Administrator Rights are required to complete the HP Software installation.
  2. About 2/3 of the way through the setup, you will be given the opportunity to select the software - select the "Full Driver" set (as opposed to the basic driver or other application).
  3. You can skip / ignore suggestion(s) that you add the HP Account – you’ll need the account at some point, for now, you can skip this suggestion (as many times as it insists it’s a good idea) during the full driver software installation.
  4. If you see it, you can skip / ignore suggestion(s) regarding Instant Ink subscription.  Instant Ink subscription is NOT mandatory.
  5. Full driver includes print and scan functions supported by your printer and provides the printer features on which other applications / software might depend.
