HP Color LaserJet 9500 Multifunction Printer
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

HP ColorLaserJet 9500mfp stuck with Ready Data Attention lights on and no HP Invent screen:

Ready, Data, and Attention lights on constantly and printer won’t move on with boot.  When power is turned on; printer fans spin and some internal noises are heard; but screen stays dark.

I have a service manual; and have checked through the error messages; but no mention of lights only.

I’ve pulled JetDirect, hard drive, and scanner card from the EIO with no change.

Printer would previously go offline and not awaken if not used for several weeks; but always awakened after power cycle.

This is a low usage machine (100,000 prints) and has been fairly trouble free.

Turns out to be a bad DIMM stick.

9500mfp runs all the lights before it checks RAM and then can move on to the annoying "invent" screen.  No RAM, no movement.

I replaced the 512 module with a 256 that I had; and it's working fine now.  Just wish I'd have had another printer to watch before I tried to figure this one out.

I would try another hard drive if I was in your shoes.

If I'm reading the repair manual right; the hard disk is an optional item.  I have removed it; along with the JetDirect and MultiFunction card.  Problem remains.

Am I missing something?

It could be a firmware CF card on the mainboard.

I had heard years ago that some CF cards were recalled; but HP Chat was, as expected, less than helpful with that Idea.  I will call on Monday.

Thanks for your insights-

As expected; my call(s) to HP were less than helpful.  The automated system couldn't understand English; and when I did get through to a "technician;" they couldn't understand me over the noise at the sawmill in El Salvador.  Maybe this is a sign that we should investigate Dell and Cannon more.  I sure hope those calls are recorded.
