My HP ENVY PHOTO 7100 printer will not proceed past a paper jam message despite my many attempts at finding paper jammed (there is no paper jammed). I have followed the HP website instructions for clearing jammed paper and cannot find any paper inside the printer.  Any ideas?

@big_wave, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your HP Envy Photo 7100!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

If your HP ENVY PHOTO 7100 printer keeps displaying a paper jam error even though no paper is stuck, here are some troubleshooting steps you can try:

Power Reset the Printer

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait 60 seconds to let it fully reset.
  • Plug the printer back in and turn it on.

Check All Paper Paths Again

Even if you've checked before, try these specific areas:

  • Paper input tray: Remove all paper, check for small torn pieces.
  • Output tray: Ensure nothing is stuck.
  • Carriage area: Open the front cover, move the ink carriage manually to see if anything is obstructing it.
  • Rear access panel: Remove it and inspect the rollers.

Clean the Paper Rollers

Dusty or dirty rollers can trigger a false jam error.

  • Use a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water.
  • Clean the rollers inside the printer and allow them to dry completely before closing.

Reset the Printer to Factory Defaults

If the error persists, resetting might help:

  • On the printer control panel, go to Setup > Printer Maintenance > Restore Defaults.
  • Confirm the reset and restart the printer.

Update Printer Firmware

An outdated firmware can cause false errors.

  • Visit HP Support and enter your printer model.
  • Download and install the latest firmware update.

Try a Different Paper Type

Some paper types might not feed correctly, leading to a jam error.

  • Use standard, non-glossy A4 or Letter-sized paper.
  • Ensure paper is properly aligned in the tray.

Check for a Sensor Issue

The jam detection sensor might be stuck or malfunctioning.

  • Gently blow air into the printer (using compressed air if available) to clear any dust.
  • If the issue persists, contact HP Support as the sensor may need servicing.

Let me know if any of these steps helped or if you need more guidance! 🚀

Take care, and have an amazing day!
