HP LaserJet Color MFP (M477fdw) 2015 model ( 10 years old)
Current Firmware, network connected, website setup.
Mac OS Sequoia 15.5. Mac M4 mini computer
Printer error only showed up in my printer queue, but not on the printer.
Nothin at the printer suggested any problems or errors.
Re-booted printer.
Reset time & date code.
Rebooted
Problem persisted.
Searched for other solutions about recreating the Certificate. (Really ?)
Followed directions from several published solutions here in the support center, but none of them matched what I was seeing.
So, just FYI - here is what I did to re-create a new Certificate.
BTW, I have no idea what my printer IP address is or how to log into my printer's web page.
But, fortunately, there was a radio button with a link in the printer spooler:
When the webpage came up in my browser, I went directly to the "NETWORKING" tab (green bar on the top):
I went to Certificates and chose the top option to "Create a new Certificate".
It took about 20 seconds and the printer started making noises like it was resetting something . . . .
It didn't get weird until I tried to actually View the Certificate.
My Mac OS did not "trust" it.
Something about not trusting "unsigned certificates".
This is all foreign website network protocol - not my thing at all.
But, hey, it worked.
I hope this helps others.
Two things that might help in the future:
1) Using HP Smart - I used to use it for scanning, but the Mac "Image Capture" utility works better and easier.
2) Print out the printer's details sheet if you need the IP address. I didn't, but I probably should have done that.
Comment:
This is a stupid error, but there is no work around.
It basically renders your network printer useless until it's fixed.
it never should have happened, but by now, HP should have fixed this already !

P.S.
I just checked.
The new Certificate expires in 12 months!
so I guess I'll have to be doing this every year !?

P.S. I wasn't able to edit my post, above, but that "Certificate" shows it is out of date (June 30, 2025).
However, my printer didn't balk until July 8th, 2025.
I tried to screen print the new Certificate, but when I viewed it, I could not get back to the full view.
Some kind of buy prevented me from backspacing to the printer web page.
To get to "Show Printer Web Page...", open the Printer Queue, click on the printer, and then hit the
"I" Information button on the top. It shows General printer information and Supply Levels.
The "I" button has the "Show Printer Web Page..." direct link.
Mine automatically logged in, so you may have to look up your original login account and password....
(I keep mine in a log book)
