hp 4630

The HP 4630 doesn't REALLY 'do' cardstock does it? HP claims it does, but every time I've tried this I get the same disappointing result. HP's own support docs say I can just select cardstock from the drop down menu, but cardstock is never an option. This is on both Windows and Mac with the latest drivers. I have tried 'brochure' because apparently that's a possibility, but that doesn't work either.

It's an old printer, but I'm still paying HP $5 a month for their Instant Ink product so I'm feeling a bit salty about this printer being described as cardstock ready when it doesn't appear to be. I've seen this question multiple times and no one ever seems to get a resolution.

Has anyone ever gotten this to work?

@pcjr2000, Welcome to HP Support Community!

I understand you have issues with printing cardstock on the printer. To provide you with an accurate solution, I'd like to know the following-

  • Is there any error message when you try to print cardstock?
  • Have you tried making photocopies using cardstock?
  • Were you able to print cardstock earlier?

Keep me posted for further assistance.

Thanks for replying!

This is in response to your private message.

I'd recommend you run blank photocopies using the regular paper on the printer to free the rollers just in case they're not freely moving.

Restart the printer and then try using the cardstock.

Keep me posted.

I can run regular paper through the printer without a problem. It’s only cardstock that has a problem.

HP documentation says I need to select the card stock option when printing, but that option doesn’t exist. Does the printer need to be informed about thicker paper? Keep in mind this has never worked with card stock so this isn’t a new development.
