Hello @Linnymat, and welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for posting your question. I'm here to help you get things back on track.
A vertical line appearing only when using the ADF (Automatic Document Feeder) is a common issue and usually indicates a small mark or debris on the ADF scan strip, a narrow glass strip next to the main scanner glass.
Even if you've cleaned the main glass, the ADF strip might still have smudges or dust that cause this line. Here's how to fix it:
- Turn off the printer and unplug it for safety.
- Lift the scanner lid to expose the glass.
- Locate the ADF scan strip, a thin strip of glass usually on the left or right side of the main scanner glass.
- Use a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with glass cleaner (or water). Avoid spraying directly on the glass.
- Gently clean the ADF strip and the white backing strip above it.
- Dry with a clean, dry lint-free cloth.
- Plug the printer back in and test by scanning a document through the ADF.
If the issue persists:
- Try scanning a different document to rule out marks on the original.
- Check for scratches or permanent marks on the ADF strip.
- Perform a copy test using both the flatbed and ADF to compare results.
