Hi @Hendershot1,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your printer!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Try these steps:

1. Ensure the Tray is Properly Closed:

  • Remove the paper tray completely and then reinsert it. Make sure it clicks firmly into place to confirm it is fully engaged.

2. Check for Remaining Debris:

  • Double-check the paper path for any small pieces of paper or debris that might still be lodged inside, preventing the tray from closing properly.

3. Verify Paper Loading:

  • Ensure the paper is correctly loaded in the tray, within the capacity, and that the paper guides are adjusted snugly against the stack. Overloading the tray or misaligned guides can prevent proper closure.

4. Inspect the Tray for Damage:

  • Look for any physical damage or misalignment in the tray that might prevent it from closing properly. Compare it with images or instructions from the HP website if needed.

5. Reset the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer, unplug the power cord, wait for about 60 seconds, then plug it back in and turn on the printer to reset any temporary errors.

6. Firmware Update:

  • Ensure the printer's firmware is up to date by checking via the HP Smart app or visiting HP's Support website for the latest updates.

7. Check the Tray Sensor:

  • Sometimes, the sensor that detects whether the tray is closed might be stuck or not functioning. Gently check around the tray area for anything out of alignment.

I hope this helps.
