I reviewed the post comprehensively. I was away on my weekend and could not respond to you immediately. You've displayed infinite patience, fabulous skills coupled with an indefatigable spirit to resolve the issue. Kudos to you for a job well done.:)

If it copies fine then please run the print and scan doctor from this link: http://hp.care/2t64Xtz and check if the issue gets resolved.

If it does not then follow the steps mentioned in my previous post to uninstall and reinstall the printer drivers. That should fix the issue for you.

Hi @alistrina,

Good Day. A warm welcome to the HP community. I reviewed the case regarding the printer not printing in color. I will be delighted to assist you here.

Superb description, brilliant troubleshooting and terrific observations made before posting. Kudos to you for that. 🙂

To assist you with accurate information I would require more information regarding this.

For better clarity, I would require more information to assist you?

  • Did this happen after a windows or software update? Do you remember?
  • Did you bypass power strips and connect the printer directly to the wall outlet?
  • Is it a wireless connection?

We need to isolate the issue between the computer and the printer patiently.

  • For a start please make 2 copies in color directly from the printer to eliminate hardware issues.
  • If it copies fine please run print and scan doctor from this link: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c02073861 and check if the issue is corrected.

If it continues please perform these steps to uninstall the printer drivers.

  • In Windows, search for and open Programs and Features.
  • Select your HP printer.
  • Select Uninstall.
  • In Windows, search for and open Devices and Printers.
  • In the Devices and Printers window look for your HP Printer. If you see it listed, right-click on it and choose "Delete" or "Remove Device.”
  • Open up the run command with the "Windows Key + R" key combo.
  • Type printui.exe /s and click OK.
  • Click on Drivers tab.
  • Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it click on it and click Remove at the bottom.
  • Select OK.
  • Remove all instances of the same.
  • Select Apply and OK on the Print Server Properties windows.
  • Close Devices and Printers.
  • Restart the PC again.

Then download the latest full feature driver from https://support.hp.com/in-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-officejet-3830-all-in-one-printer-series/7172321  and install it on the computer after selecting the correct operating system.

Connect the printer to your computer only when the setup prompts for the printer.

If it fails to copy try with different cartridges and call Phone support to get the printer replaced as it might have a hardware issue.

Please perform all these steps patiently as it is critical to resolving the issue. The trick is to remain patient, Going by your technical expertise and competence I am sure you will be able to perform these steps without breaking a sweat. 🙂

Hope this helps. Let me know how it goes. To simply say thanks, please click the "Thumbs Up" button to give me a Kudos to appreciate my efforts to help. If this helps, please mark this as Accepted Solution as it will help several others with the same issue to get it resolved without hassles.

Take care and have a blessed week ahead. 🙂

Cheers!

  1.   I unplugged the printer for 2 minutes, then restarted.  Nothing changed.
  2.   I ran the troubleshooter.  Nothing changed.
  3. I uninstalled the driver.  Then reinstalled it.  No changes.

There is no color option in printer preferences.  I have new color cartridges installed.

This has been an issue since I bought the printer.  Upon initial installation, it worked fine.  Periodically it loses the color print capability.  I have uninstalled and reinstalled the driver 5 times in the 1 year I've had it.

Now, even a reinstall does not fix the problem.  Please advise with specifics and not instructions to repeat the steps I've already take listed above.
