My HP Deskjet 4158e printer lost connection to HP Instant Ink.  I have tried adding the printer, the site says that it is already installed and connected; but my printer screen says that it is not connected to HP Instant Ink.  The information light on the printer stays on to indicate a lost connection.  I have worked through all of the wireless quick start guide instructions.  My printer is connected to my home wifi. How do I restore connection to HP Instant Ink?

Hi @ink_connection,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

If your HP DeskJet Plus 4158e printer is showing "not connected to HP Instant Ink" on the printer screen, even though the HP website says it's connected, this usually means the printer has lost its Web Services connection, which is required for Instant Ink to function properly.

Here’s how to fix it:
Restore HP Instant Ink Connection on DeskJet 4158e

1. Check Internet Connection

  • Confirm the printer is connected to your home Wi-Fi (not a guest or mobile hotspot).
  • Print a Wireless Network Test Report:
    • Press the Information (i) button and the Wi-Fi button together.
    • Look for “Connected” and a valid IP address.

2. Turn Web Services Off and Back On

This resets the Instant Ink connection.

  1. On the printer control panel:
    • Press the Information and Cancel buttons together to print the Web Services Info Page.
  2. Open the Embedded Web Server (EWS):
    • On your computer, open a browser and enter the printer’s IP address from the info page.
  3. In the EWS:
    • Go to the Web Services tab.
    • Click Remove Web Services.
    • After removal, click Enable Web Services again.
    • Follow the prompts to re-enable and print a new info sheet.

3. Update Printer Firmware

Outdated firmware can cause Instant Ink sync issues.

4. Reclaim the Printer in HP Smart

  • Open the HP Smart app.
  • Remove the printer from your account.
  • Re-add it using the Claim Code from the new Web Services info sheet.

I hope this helps.

Take care, and have an amazing day!
