My printer prints out a test page just fine but won't print from the computer. It says it has sent the document to the printer. There is no error message. I have uninstalled and reinstalled several times. I followed the instructions in your post to the drivers tab and tried to remove the driver. I have an HP OfficeJet Pro 8710. There is a choice between removing the driver only and removing the driver and the driver package. I tried both but got an error message with both. When I tried to remove the driver only. the error message said "Unable to remove HP OfficeJet Pro 8710x64 Type 3 - User Mode. The specified driver is currently in use. However the printer is not connected to the computer." Please advise.

Thank you for joining HP Forums.
This is a great place to get support, find answers to your technical queries.
I understand that the printer is not printing from the computer.
And appreciate your time and efforts on the troubleshooting steps:)
Could please let me know if the printer able to make a copy standalone?
Can I get the operating system of your computer?
If the copy is working fine follow the below troubleshooting steps.
Let’s try to fix this issue by doing a clean install.
Follow the steps mentioned below:
First, unplug the USB cable from the printer is present.
Go to Control panel – Programs and feature – Select all the HP Officejet printer entries and uninstall them.
Now go to Control panel – Devices and printer – Select all the printer entries and remove the device.
Restart your computer.
Click the bottom-left Start button on the desktop, type device manager in the search box and tap Device Manager on the menu.
Once in device manager, click on the view tab in the top & choose “Show hidden devices”.
Then from the device manager list, check the entries under “Printer” – If there are any entries, please right click and choose “uninstall” – In the confirm device un-install pop-up, make sure you select the box which says “Delete the driver software for this device".
Also, check the entries under "printer queue" and "imaging devices" and repeat the same exercise.
Delete any printer entry or any entry which says “Unknown device”.
Once done, close device-manger.
Then press the "windows key" + "r" to get the "Run" window open - Type "printui.exe /s" and press enter.
Under print server properties, go to drivers - remove any entry there as well.
Again, go to Run window, type – “c:/programdata” – Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.
Once done you can try cleaning out your temporary files and cached files.
You can try using automated applications like some cleaner software's that you can download from the internet.
Now restart your computer again.
Open the Run window again, type “services.msc” and press ok to get services window.
Scroll down to “Remote Procedure Call (RPC)” – right-click and go to properties.
Make sure the service is started and startup type is “Automatic”.
Now scroll up and go to “Function Discovery Provider Host” – right-click and select properties – Change the startup type to “manual” and start the service.
Repeat the same exercise on “Function Discovery Resource Publication” as well.

Then, follow the below steps to assign manual IP to the printer.
1) Print a Network configuration page from the printer's control panel.
2) Look for IP address from the Network configuration page.
3) Open web browser - Chrome or IE or any other browser that you are using.
4) Type the IP address mentioned on Network configuration page into the browser's address bar or URL bar and press enter button.
5) Go to the Network tab.
6) Click on Networking from the left pane.
7) Then click on Network Address (IP).

9) Scroll down the screen and select Manual DNS server.
10) Enter the Primary and secondary DNS server from the Network Configuration page into the Manual Preferred DNS server field.
11) Click on Apply.
Refer to the video link for step by step instructions - http://hp.care/2cqpl6p
Note: The video is for win 8 but steps are similar for other operating systems as well. You need to enter the IP address in the browser's URL or the address bar to access the printer page.
Keep me posted, how it goes! However, I'll try and follow up in next 24 to 48 hours to doublecheck on the issue.
If the information I've provided was helpful, give us some reinforcement by clicking the solution and kudos buttons, that'll help us and others see that we've got the answers!
Have a great day!
Take care:)

Thanks for your help. I am using Windows 7 and the printer does copy. It just doesn't print from the computer.
I went through all the steps you gave prior to the IP address part. It says printer is working, no error messages, everything connected. I am connecting with a USB. At the end of the wizard, after it says it's connected and ready, there is another page that says Information About Your Device. When I fill that out the Next box is grayed out and I can't continue. The box will not go away. There is no X on it to close it. If I try to close it from the taskbar it won't close. The only way to get rid of it is restart the computer. This is what happens every time I try to reinstall the printer. Is this important or just optional?
On the IP address part when I put in the IP address in either Chrome or Firefox the connection times out so I can't continue. The video does say that it is for wireless. I am not using wireless so is this part necessary?
It still will not print from the computer. It says the document was sent to the printer and there are no error messages, it just doesn't print.
Thank you.

It looks like you were interacting with @Raj1788, but he is out for the day & I'll be glad to help you out,
I'm the Jeet_Singh & I'm at your service.
As I understand you are able to make a copy from the printer, which explains that the hardware part is functioning. Don't worry as I have a few other steps which should help you with this issue.
Try the steps below to clean up the printer files from the registry and give the registry permissions:
Let’s first take a backup of the registry to avoid any unwanted damage or to revert back to its original settings. Follow the steps blow to create a registry backup and to delete the printer entries.
First, uninstall the printer drivers completely by going to – control panel – all programs.
Once the drivers are completely uninstalled, restart your computer.
Press “Windows logo key” + “R” to get the run pop-up window. Type “regedit” and press ok.
To back up the entire registry, click Computer. Click “File”, and then click “Export”. Type a name for the backup file and save the backup copy to the location of your choice.
Now, to delete the printer drivers, expand the “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE” – “SYSTEM” – “CurrentControlSet” – Scroll down to “Print”.
Expand “Environments” – “Windows x64” – “Drivers” – Right-click on any HP Officejet and delete the same. Also, expand “Print processors” under Windows x64 and delete all folders except “winprint”.
Minimize “Environments” and expand “Monitors” – Delete all the folders which start with “HP” (Only keep Local port, Microsoft shared.., Standard TCP/IP, USB monitor and WSD port)
Minimize “Monitors” and expand “Printers” – Delete all the folders which say “HP Officejet..”
Check the fig below for reference.
Now, provide ENUM permissions in the registry. Here are the steps:
To give the ENUM permissions, go to registry, expand the “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE” – “SYSTEM” – “CurrentControlSet”.
Right-click on “ENUM” and select “Permissions”. Now click on “Add”.
In the “Enter the object names to select” field type “ADMINISTRATOR” and press ok.
Administrator will be added on the “Group or username filed”. Now click “Advanced”. You will get the “Advanced Security Settings for Enum” window. Select the “Permissions” tab.
Select the Administrator field – Edit – And select the box next to “Full control”. Press ok. Repeat the exercise for all the type except for “Everyone”.
Now select the “Auditing” tab select “Add”. Again add “Administrator” field. Edit and give full permissions.
Apply the settings, and exit out of registry.
Now click on this link: https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers (Please enter the Product number and then select the Operating system and version of Windows before downloading and installing the software.
Connect the USB cable if prompted and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.
Keep me posted,
If the information I've provided was helpful,
give us some reinforcement by clicking the solution and kudos buttons,
that'll help us and others see that we've got the answers!
Good Luck.

So far between trying on my own with uninstalling and reinstalling and following the previous person's instructions I have spent about 12 hours trying to get this printer to print. I bought it on Feb 12. I tried to return it to the store 17 days later and they wouldn't take it back because they said the cutoff date was 15 days. I have never had this much trouble trying to get a printer to print. I can't imagine that you have to go into the registry and change things there to get a printer to print. That does not sound logical to me. You didn't answer my questions about the previous person's directions either. Is there some way I can take this to an HP repair place and have it paid for?

Today I had a printer repairman come to the house. He had the same problem I do, everything looks like it is working, the documents say they go to the printer but they never show up in printing in progress. There is no error message. He was not able to fix it. The only thing he said was the printer may have had a port go bad and to return it under the warranty. Best Buy won't take it back. Please tell me how I can return it under warranty.
