HP LaserJet MFP M140we Printer
macOS 10.15 Catalina

My hp printer has failed.

I think the error was with a letter missing from the name of my device on registration, "w' instead of "we"at the end..

This seems to have changed the product name and number.

I can find no solution. the initial spelling seems to be hot-wired to the printer registration.

My experience on the phone was horrendous.

I spent about 25 minutes trying to get my name and email address to the gentleman.

Each letter had to be spelt out and pronounced phonetically! Not my forte. Not going there again. It seems a pity to have to dispose of it and buy another (Non-HP) printer.

Bring back plug and play, easier than HPs 1,2,3.

Hi @Ainiseoir,

Welcome to the HP Support Community

I understand you are facing an issue with your HP LaserJet MFP M140we Printer. Not to worry I will help you to get a resolution to resolve the issue.

Since when are you facing this issue?

Have you made any changes post that this issue was raised?

Do you see any lights blinking on the control panel of the printer?

Have you observed any error codes on the display?

Let's perform a power drain:

  • With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  • Remove the USB cable, if present.
  • Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.
  • Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord (This is important) and then plug back the power cord to the printer.
  • Turn on the printer and wait till the warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle

Update the printer firmware

Thank you, Gaya.

Correction printing has been stopped!

Been there and done that! One of the solutions I came across.

I have been in and out of so many rabbit holes at this stage that goodness knows where I am.

I keep coming back to inadvertently pressing the printer tile with the w appendage instead of the we one during setup.

I believe that this is the error that HP were moaning about before they pulled the plug and cancelled printing.

It was printing beautifully before that, which was why I wasn't too fussed, despite the misspell.

I feel I need to get back to a clean slate, but That doesn't seem to be an option.

I cancelled Instant Ink to reduce complications (as well as not being able to print.)

All in all a bloody mess.

I've come  with an error message in the final page of the failed setup attempt.

Is there a "Deeper clean" than the the standard factory default one?

Probably stretching the rules, but I do seem to have a dead duck here.
